Shame it's a reference one, I'd buy it but I know I'd be unhappy with it in the end.

any good? Hows the blower cooler, is it loud?

Reviews say very loud/hot under load (80C) and it doesn't have a back plate either.

The core clock and boosted clock are both lowered than some of the competitors.

it's a 1080 but it's the most budget 1080 AIB blower card according to some reviews i read

You should, cards running hotter for longer periods of time will fail sooner than those with more reasonable temps. Yes, I know you can get it replaced in warranty, but dealing with GPU manufacturers (assuming it goes after the first year with Amazon) can be a pain, IME they are often slow to respond, and don't have any UK based facilities, so you have to pay for expensive international postage and wait weeks for a replacement and if you don't have a onboard GPU, that's weeks without a usable PC....
High end cards like this should have a minimum of two fans IMHO.

Are you guys sure the comments about the noise are made on the 1080 model, or the 1060/1070?

Asus cards with their Turbo cooler are not "reference" by any definition of the word, as the pcb is not Nvidia reference and ditto for the cooler.

While I'm not a fan of single fan coolers on high end cards (see my other post for why), I have heated this just for the price for a GTX1080 but won't be buying myself. I have a Inno 3D iChill X4 GTX1080 on pre-order at £473 though still unknown if Amazon will honour it but I'd rather keep my order for that in the hope they will than buy this right now as I just don't think I'd be satisfied with that cooler....

Why have you reposted your own deal after a week?
Not sure I have ever seen the same deal by the same user go hot twice at the same time when posted a week apart :stuck_out_tongue:

High end != High temperature/high power consumption. Reviews say this doesn't go above 83 on default profile. Chuck a custom profile on it and I'm sure it'd max at 75.
johnthehuman
17 Feb 17#18
problem being that it's a blower, so the default profile will be loud.
Anything more aggressive and it'll be like a plane taking off.

almost bought this card, but did some research first and according to websites like trustpilot, asus customer service is awful. anyone had any personal experience with them?

used asus motherboards and graphics cards for years, very high quality and good support actually from what I've heard, I've never had to use them because I've never had a problem with their products!
This card would be really good for people who watercool their computers - meaning they don't need the cooler and fan, if the bios is borked to throttle to 75c that still wouldn't be a problem, if a card is hitting 75c on water there is a really big issue with the system. Considering a waterblock for this will run you around £120 you can get 1080 watercooling performance for the same price actually slightly less, than a strix version.
BTW... these cards have a system now where the card will slow down if it gets too hot, usually around 82c on the reference 1080 - it will never go above that. Equally, if you have really really good cooling (such as the watercooling I mentioned) the card will overclock itself. People looking at this deal probably know this already but just incase - now you're informed!

I wouldn't worry about the manufacturer RMA process. Amazon normally gives a year of their cover anyway.

I just ordered one and will sell my two 980ti G1's to fund it. A lot of 980tis are going for around the £300 mark so anything close to that I'll be in profit. Some games will be faster on a single 1080, some slower. I recently got a vive and seeing as SLI isn't really used at all in VR, the 1080 should shine more in there.

Yeah it doesn't get any hotter than 70 degrees to be fair, it's just quite loud. Doesn't bother me as IMO the reference cards are gorgeous. I also wear a pair of Beyerdynamic DT770s while gaming so no chance am I hearing through those thankfully!

Sounds like the card is throttling, be careful on future AAA tiles you might be wondering why your framerate is crap - this will be the reason, check my previous comment for more info

I think it's more because of my custom fan curve in Afterburner. As soon as the card hits 65 degrees I have it set to damp the fans to max. It creeps another few degrees but never any further. Also got it over clocked to 1500MHz, but it hardly ever needs to clock itself that high as I only play at 60fps. Might be a different story when I grab a 4k monitor eventually :stuck_out_tongue:

1440p 3d vision in ultra settings.... In fairness i was still getting around 90fps in 3d in most things. Swapped it out to the 1080 yesterday and the vr on the vive seems to have had a boost in performance. Im sure some games will be slower tho on the monitor. At least i have space to add another 1080 later on if i want. Just a shame vr doesnt really use sli at all. I read nvidia funhouse is about the only one that does

excuse me but I think ive misunderstood, you have this 1080 correct? i only ask because you said you overclocked it yourself? do you know about gpu boost 3.0, it's been proven to be better at overclocking than doing it manually. Plus you haven't got the card running at higher clocks than needed when not playing games, sorry if i've misunderstood, but if i havent, you really shouldn't be doing manual overlocks bud.
