Bluetooth it's getting more and more advanced, and really simple to stream from a phone or even a laptop.

It's just so cosy to sit in your bed and be able to stream some music from your phone to your fancy music system

I remember when was pro-logic. Presumably these days the DSP cores are better and or you can delay the picture so you don't get the picture out of sync with the audio.

For Bluetooth use a Chromecast to the TV and cast your music to that.

I have my Chromecast plugged into my TV and the audio goes straight from Chromecast to TV to soundbsr without any messing about, and let's my TV remote control the sound bar and Chromecast...

This looks a good painting with my new xbox one slim? I believe my TV does not have HDR so not missing out there. Also most of my content is via sky 'hd' or netflix. I am guessing this unit will suffice for me?

Yes and no - Bluetooth can stream at 336kbps which is more than sufficient for Spotify/streaming services. That being said, I have a chromecast audio connected via optical to my receiver for exactly this purpose so I can't really talk!

It has hdmi input ? Just stick chromecast audio in the back and play spotity and tune in radio from your fruit based device, if you messing around with Bluetooth you may as well get a cheaper system as your losing out on sound quality

So the 4k on this is effectively useless as any 4k devices will be blocked by hdcp2.2.
I have the same with my Sony strdn840, however I can kinda forgive that as hdcp2.2 hadn't arrived when i bought it. However, advertising this as 4k when it can't pass the vast majority of 4k signals is very misleading.

Can someone advice how would this compare to Logitech z906? I do not watch DVDs or BD only need connecting to the TV. It seems they both do the same thing except inputs and are nearly the same price as well.

Depends on the source, 4K output from a PC should be fine. 4K from a UHD player wont but that's why standalone UHD players have 2 HDMI outputs for this very reason.

bought something similar a couple of years ago and upgraded the speakers to Tannoy TFX 5.1's as the Yamaha's were only ok

Not many TV's will pass through the 5.1 signal via the optical out or via ARC, most will only pass-through a stereo PCM signal.

Anyway if the UHD player would be an Xbox One S (like in my case) I wouldn't connect the Xbox One S to any receiver to do NOT introduce any lag when playing, If so, connecting the Xbox One S with HDMI to the TV, and with S/PDIF to the receiver, will it make it possible for the receiver to reproduce the 5.1 signal on HCDP2.2 content?

As I've already said that all depends on the TV, most will only pass-through stereo PCM.

Not sure if your talking from experience but connecting a Xbox One S directly to an amp will not create any lag, the video signal should be pass straight through and only the sound stripped out and decoded, you do realise that even the best TV's on their own induce quite a bit of lag especially in HDR mode. Gamer mode produces less but you loose the picture quality.

I don't have any problem at all with the wires. But my wife certainly does and the sitting room already bears some resemblance to a spaghetti factory.

Depends how high your standards are and how much you expect from it.

I use a Yamaha amp to drive the rear speakers in my surround system (the rest is Linn) and I'm quite happy with it for that.
I used to have an old Yamaha amp to play music in my kitchen (it died recently after many years of service) - again, I was quite happy with it for that.
I wouldn't use a Yamaha to play music in my main system - but that's not really a fair comparison (Linn stuff costs many times more than this system).

If you only want to play music, you can get a better 2 channel amp for similar money.
If you've already got a decent music system. this is unlikely to be better than it - but you might be able to integrate it (as I've done) and use it to drive just rear channels when you want surround).

If you're looking for one system to play music AND be a surround system then this is a good buy for £200.
Richers are also very good about returns - buy it on a credit card, try it at home and see if it does what you want it to do. If not, take it back.

You do have to be seriously impressed by a company (Richer Sounds) that actually warns you that this is not 4K compatible before selling you it, even if you don't actually ask the question!

​plan ahead, I have hidden tubes behind the plaster running down under skirting, then run wires under carpet to receiver. but before then I just had the little plastic channels fitted above skirting. looked ok

depending on what games you play I'd use optical cable, creates quite a bit lag if your playing online shooters and using hdmi.

I have sky hd and Netflix and amazon prime through my smart tv. I guess the sky box runs through this, but would I be able to get the 5.1 on the Netflix and amazon prime?

now, I have been reading somewhere else that connecting the Xbox one with optical audio to the receiver isn't going to be a good solution, as the optical cable will introduce some loss of quality, therefore I am not really sure what audio signal/quality the receiver will get from the optical input...

Have you got the inputs mode set to 'Video Direct' mode as this should bypass any processing completely

is toslink cable a coxail cable.

If I bought a toslink to optical cable could I plug the coxail into my amp and optical into my TV.

As my amp only has 2 optical ports. But has coxail port to use but the TV does not.

you have to call the telesales team i think they have stopped selling over the phone as they have reached their limit apparently as a friend of mine tried and was told to try contact local stores to place and order.

I Picked up the YHT-298 in 2013, cost me £229 at richersounds. Same speakers as these, they're good. I swapped them out in the end and got the Boston Acoustics 5.1 XS, something like that anyway! The amp is still going strong.

As for bluetooth, if it's required - you can get a solution for around £4.

Just a thought, due to the HDCP issue, and as I have an Xbox One S and MAY at somepoint start using the Blue Ray player, would using optical out allow me to get audio from the speakers, whilst still viewing in 4K?

The lack of HDCP seems to be the stumbling point for me now, as it could restrict me in future.

It comes with FM radio, doesn't it? Why not get a cheaper system if you are going to listen to radio, by your logic. This is not that expensive, by the way. It is a 5.1 system (a sound bar would be around 100 easy, and it is not a 5.1) and a receiver. Quite cheap actually. Maybe the cheapest?

Well it's not enough to carry high quality audio as, in the same way, a copper wire can send internet to your house at a breakneck speed but in reality it doesn't as they have protocols to follow. Bluetooth uses A2DP which caps out at 336kbps and I've not seen Bluetooth be reliably used for video as the effective ping is so high and variable that it's a silly idea to use it for that purpose. Just wondered, are the speakers wall mountable? From what I've read, it comes with 25m sound cable... Just trying to work out whether would be able to wall mount the speakers?

How easy or difficult are these to set up - is it just a matter of connecting the speakers and plugging in your devices via HDMI?

Bit of a no-mark when it comes to audio equipment and could do with replacing my crackly Logitech speakers....

Pretty sure 25m of cable is included but it will be low grade and may not be enough. It's cheap to buy though.

They have keyhole mounts in the speakers so yes you can wall mount them. Ideally at the height of your ears when sitting in your usual viewing position in the room.

Yes, connect the speakers, connect the devices to the HDMI in ports, connect the TV to the HDMI out.

Its all labelled on the back of the amp.

As KTF above, simple to connect. It's worth spending a bit of time in the set up menus to add the distance from viewing position to each of the speakers. Gives the best audio experience.

Apologies, Chromecast Video will as the name suggests allow streaming of video such as iplayer, youtube, netflix etc. it has an HDMI connection only. Chromecast Audio only supports Audio and has 3.5mm (which can connect to RCA) and SPDIF optical. Either would work on this receiver and if there is only a few pounds in it, I'd get the video which can be used for both audio and video.

I got the 381 but the only device that doesn't switch is my sky+ HD tried all the settings but looks like hdmi control not working. Fire TV, chrome cast and bluray all work fine

Bit of a novice here and think I know the answer to this question, but thought I'd ask the experts in this thread.

I have a wall mounted TV with the cables plastered in the wall. Foolishly, I didn't put an optical out cable from the TV to where the amp would sits. To use the TVs native smart features and benefit from the 5.1 sound output, could I plug the HDMI from the TV into the HDMI input from the amp? I thought I read somewhere that HDMI worked both ways, but guess it might depend on the TV?

If your TV has ARC on one of the HDMI ports then it can take the audio to the receiver (i.e. audio goes both ways).
