Got them 2 for £10 at screwfix 2 months ago and the brand was British general which I think is an affiliate of masterplug

Yes...but very little power when a device isn't plugged. You really need to get a good branded USB wall socket too, better the wall socket, less power when USB isn't in use.

No, they don't power on until something is attached and they will go off when charged.

Dont think the offer is still on at Screwfix however I have fitted many of these from there and they are decent quality. If you are considering fitting one by yourself be aware that many other brands have a fuller back making them in some circumstances difficult to fit if space is limited due to the existing wires , the ones from screwfix are as slim as you can get.
