I would definitely argue that case. I have used this for years for space sims and flight sim. Given its nothing compared some but for sub £30 nothing compares. Especially the ability to split the flight stick and throttle either side of the keyboard.

I too would disagree with this - Elite dangerous is fantastic with this setup.

There is a lot of snobbery around HOTAS and while setups like the warthog are beautifully made the Hotas X is perfectly usable and has no competition in its price bracket. Probably one of the best pilots in Elite Dangerous uses one with flight assist off. He made a video guide here. If you check his channel there are a lot of videos of him flying with far more skill than most people will ever achieve.
Personally I like to use dual sticks (2 T1600Ms) as I find it more fun than hotas.

Great deal and using it with Elite Dangerous, there are quite a few key bindings that can be downloaded for it.

It's fine for space sims, played plenty of ED with it, In fact I've owned this stick for years and it is still in perfect condition. Reddit is full of obese basement dwelling braggart pedants.

I bought this for elite dangerous about a year ago. It's great for the price and really adds to the immersion.

It feels cheap and nasty but does the job. Can't expect it to be amazing for that price though.

It's been cheaper I got 2 from Amazon last year for £20 new and can confirm it is excellent for Elite Dangerous! still a steel at £26 mind.

Got this brand new from Amazon in 2015 for £20. Still not opened it.
Not the cheapest since 2010...

I won a Saitek x52 worth £150, and much preferred my Thrustmaster, thus buying the second one for my other PC.
The x52 just felt wobbly. This felt firmer and more responsive.

Great with riftcat or trinus vr and a fiit v4 headset for poor mans VR experience

Reason why I didn't purchase this about two months ago was because it's prime only.
Went for the T16000m instead.

Great for things like Elite Dangerous, but the stick and throttle movements lack fluidity which isn't great for true simulators.

These always sound cool, but in my opinion a controller does the same job already lol. Source: I have a joystick.

You may have a joystick but I don't think you've learned to use it properly.
For a start the length of the joystick compared to a thumb stick allows for much finer control, the throttle can be left at say 80% on a flight stick, on the joypad you'd have to hold a tiny thumb stick/trigger permanently in position, which is uncomfortable, annoying and much harder to do accurately. The entire layout of a flight stick is designed for a few specific types of games. Why do you think pilots use flight sticks?

Think I may go for one of these instead having read about the control schema - hats for multi-axis control.
Its a great stick. With elite dangerous I haven't figured out how to control the galaxy and system map so either need to use touchscreen or mouse which is annoying as my xbox 360 pad does everything.
This, a bobovr headset, trinus VR and moonlight and a decent (at least 1080p phone) it really adds to the immersion

Keen to try and get VR set up with my PC. I've got an iphone 6s, a suitable headset but not sure which app is best and how to get it to work. You mentioned Trinus AND moonlight. Do i need both?
Any advice greatly appreciated
On a side note its still not available for Non prime and is now £29.99 (still a good price i think)

I thought pilots used xbox controllers...

Dunno if there are iPhone versions. You'll need an nvidia card for moonlight, it's streaming abilities are ahead of anything else as all done in hardware, something amd cannot do. Yeah you'll need Trinis too, probably tridef as well (£30) if the game doesn't have native 3d.
