Good price but stay away from Patong. Karon or Kata are nicer which are nearby. Ao Nang is my preferred option for this area of Thailand, about 2 hours on a boat from Phuket

Please can you offer suggestions with links to places that have similar prices? Otherwise, it's kind of like saying, "Yeah, that's a good price for camping in Calne, but camping on Necker Island is way nicer."

Personally, I think Kata and Karon are not much better then Patong.
Ao Nang is as touristy as you can get in Thailand. Its ok if you fancy an Indian curry or a Pizza. But if you prefer real Thai food & to experience Thai culture I would avoid Ao Nang.

I'd prefer to get the flights and not get the Connection, spend 10 days in Beijing instead:)

No it's not. Ao Nang is a place, not a resort or hotel. I'm with Casablancas when it comes to Patong - if you're into ping pong shows, massaaaaaaages and being surrounded by package holiday makers then you're laughing. But for 4* and flights, this is a good price - shame you're going to be spending a chunk of your holiday sheltering from the pouring rain - our summer is their wet season!

pat....
all depends what you want really. Bangkok has everything. Great nightlife, great markets, great food, historical sites (and the sleaze side of life if thats what you want) and is very very cheap even with the pound being so poor.
I have my favourites. but you have to be more specific to what you'd like. I've been many times to thailand but I head to other places like
Koh Sok National Park
Railay Beach
Ko phayam
Samilian Islands
Pracup Kiri Kan
and many more. but if you decide only to do bkk for 5 nights. I would probably stay near the centre....between sukhumvit soi 1 to 24...would be my advice for accomodation.

Be careful with air china, I came back from South Korea with them 1 time, never again, the airport mid stop is absolutely crazy, there was an epic queue and we nearly missed our connecting flight - thankfully there was another traveller telling us the directions to avoid the queue, there was no signs to show us the way otherwise, not the country you want to miss your flight - with visa issues etc

dont book that trip, normal boat trip will cost £20pp. as for phuket, patong is the busy place, but if u are a couple, or elder, then go to the other beaches.
I've been twice..

June isnt exactly the wet season, its a great time to go. Yes there may be rain but its usually short bursts late or early and then clears up and is a welcome relief.

I live and work in SE Asia for 10 months of the year and have done for many years. Patong is Benidorm but without the class . Rip-offs abound and increasingly has spread to the rest of the island. Thailand, the real Thailand, has to be one of the easiest places in the world to travel around, do it yourself, just book a flight.
