I have family in the Isle of Wight so I always try and find the best price when it comes to getting the car ferry over.
I have found a really good deal this month which is cheaper than I have ever paid before.
Use the code(RT2017) which gives you 20% off the car ferry if you book by the end of January 2017 and the travel dates are before the 23rd of July 2017.
For example:
17th February @ 7:30 (Southampton) - 20th February @ 6pm (East Cowes) is £49.20
You can get it cheaper with earlier / later times also and then the price increases with peak times so choose the combination that suits you.
Red Funnel - 20% off stays of 2 nights or more with a car when you book by 31st January 2017 for travel by 23rd July 2017. Excludes 8th - 12th June 2017 (Isle of Wight Festival dates). Valid for standard cars.
Not dissing you, just another monopoly keeping the prices high I expect.
If I ever want to visit the "ill of Wigget", I suspect I will skip the ferry and swim, its not far.

But with all the existing tourism infrastructure and cutting edge industry, surely that would pay for itself in a matter of years? - oh wait, it's the Isle of Wight we're talking about...

Not quite the market size to generate enough competition compared to Dover-Calais, I suspect!

Thanks, very Useful post. Wish I'd known this when my old Mum was around. The cost of IOW ferries are a nightmare for people with elderly , sick relatives on the island.
I use car ferries all over northern Europe, I can often get from Stockholm across to Finland on the Viking Line or Silja line cruisers , 10 hour crossing with car and cabin, for the price of the IOW ferry, something is amiss.
The Norwegian Fjord ferries operate drive-on-off automatic barriers with a small crew and a conductor who collects the fares during the crossing. The bonkers over-management of the minuscule IOW crossing is hilarious by comparison.

Can't wait for the IOW bridge or tunnel to be built.
The ferries there and back are so expensive.

Thanks for the info... Shame Bestival has moved, could have used the site to monitor for deals, hopefully Rob Da Bank starts a new festival on the IOW back how Bestival was in the old days.

I have family on IOW and went to book a ferry over there in august. It was £150 return. Taking the pish is one way to describe the prices they charge
I agree with Rickardo. Ridiculous prices.

Same here, we have relatives in the IoW, and the ferry ticket is often the most expensive part of visiting them.
I had a look at studious Wightlink ltd published finances and they clearly made a ton of money.
