for those that might be thinking what you might use this for - if you plug say an electric kettle into a mains socket and the kettle does not appear to work - all you do is just plug this into the socket and if all the lights on this adapter light up then you know the mains socket is ok and the fault is with the kettle

Do they do one with a light on that says if your fridge might be broken?

Ahh, so that's what a mains tester plug does. They should really give it a more descriptive name.

Good price! Paid more than this for a B&Q one recently and it was worth buying because I found one of our sockets was wired incorrectly.
its free postage on orders of £5 or more excl vat which it says in the description

Looks good but data sheet on the website seems to be for a different one with red and green leds.

So... You plug it in and turn on the switch, and if the plug is wired properly, it turns on? How does that differ from literally every single other electrical appliance in the entire world? Genuine question

This tells you what the fault is and whether the socket has been wired correctly, not just whether the socket doesn't work or not which would be pretty obvious anyway. It's a safety device.

Because most electrical appliances will still turn on and work ok even if the socket is wired incorrectly, such as having the live and neutral wires reversed or having no earth. This tester plug will tell you if there's a wiring problem.

not really for a normal person more of a electricians tool. Unless.u have borrowers aliens or something else that will come to ur house and mess with the wiring in ur plugs it should be the same as it was when u had the electrics done so not much chance of a plug suddenly having wires mixed up.

Should be useful to diagnose poor speeds when using powerline adaptors. May get one for that reason. Thanks OP

Unless you did the wiring yourself, you don't know what some cowboy may have done in the past. Especially true of any modern estate.
