I quite like this! Almost bought one last time they were posted, but deceided to wait until I moved house. I'm using an NZXT Hue to light behind my desk at the moment, to help reduce eyestrain and it works a treat. A little impractical though as it's meant to go in the DVD drive bay (which I no longer have on my machine)
This one lets you control it via an Android / iOS device though so takes any of the messing around out. 2m is the prefect size for me too, as it just covers both the desks. They should send the EU plug anyway, but just stick a note in to make sure you have no issues (should be fine anyway)

If you're after something much cheaper, without the extra functions and aren't too fussed about using a phone to control it, you could go for the This Kit - It's £8.81 and you get a fair bit of LED stripping. You'll need a power supply for it though, as this one doesn't come with one. I quite like the idea of these too, dead simple to use. I suppose it depends on your application, really. Anyway, thought it was worth a shout!

or for about £12, get arilux smart wi-fi rgb controller for £6.50 and 5m 5050 rgb strip for about £6. does the same job, maybe not ifttt, but few people use it.

Few people use it until they use it. It's pretty much the glue between my disparate collection of "smart" home devices.

I don't think so :disappointed: Not seen anything for that, anyway.
Shouldn't be much on a problem, depends how you want it. My strip is along the back of the desk, If you want it on the back of the TV itself it could be tricky to route it, but not impossible. You'd want to make sure the strip was nice and even, so it doesn't look patchy. You can get smaller strip kits so that you can have a couple top and bottom to make that issue go away.

I'm pretty sure it wouldn't work directly, but since this works with IFTTT, then you can get it to work with the Amazon Echo since IFTTT thankfully now works with Alexa. You just need to use IFTTT to connect to Yeelights & Alexa, and then create a recipe for example:
If I say "Alexa, trigger yeelights" then yeelights turn on.

Don't bother with the 2 x 5M strip. Threw it away after a couple of weeks. A lot of the diodes did not work, different sized ones, split tape such that the last 2m of one did not work. Basically a load of .......

Just to warn people in here that I have recently ordered a couple of items from GearBest. One item was sent and was a different model number (cheaper version) from what was advertised on their website. The next item never turned up and after sending them an enquiry I was told that they do not have it and that they will therefore not be able to send it. They would have kept it all to themselves had it not been for me chasing it up a couple of months down the line. May be a bit of bad luck but two problems in two orders made me question ordering anything from them again.

ive used them a lot in the last year no issues here except sometimes the tracking takes days to start working and a faulty plug which they offered a refund for and sent in under three days or reporting the fault.

This doesn't react to what's on the screen though does it?
It doesn't! I'm on the lookout for something similar to the Philips Amiblight system. There are some around but 1. They are expensive 2. The reviews don't seem too great. I have tried the Ambilight system and it is pretty good.

I looked into similar, addressable LED strips aren't too expensive, but then I thought about how I'd control them to work for all inputs etc. and gave up!

If you have had a bad experience with an establishment and you see other people interested many people will warn others of their bad experience. It's pathetic, the same people jump to conclusions when hearing one side of a story >.>

The Vansky LED strips on Amazon are pretty good for TVs, they're USB powered. I've got a regular white one but they do a colour-variable one as well as a kit with two strips as well.

Nice find OP not seen these before. You forgot to cost in a tube of adhesive/sealant for when they fall off as the sticky tape is useless! Bought some LED strips for the Kitchen and ended up buying additional sealant as they wouldn’t stick for more than five minutes. Plenty of threads on google for options on sticking these things down.

I've always had great service and deals with banggood. Gearbest on the other hand has only screwed up every single order I've ever made.
Just use paypal and get buyers protection, problem solved.

Received mine today, but the iOS, Android apps don't work. Can't find another way to add them to wifi, so Alexa and IFTTT doesn't see it.

Yup got it working about an hour ago for 1/3 of the philips price its great
The colours arent amazing though: you can change them on the app but the app shows as a dark green and led is like a yellow green, also takes a few seconds to catch up to colour changes but for £25 id say its worth that

can I ask, what app are you using to control it? I asked a question in 'ask' as I'm having a bit of a game to connect to be honest. I tried mihome, but that connects but doesn't control, and yeelight doesn't seem to connect, oy to a virtual strip light and doesn't actually control anything?
help much appreciated :-)

Im using the yeelight app
When you say trouble connecting it do you mean your signed in (with an account) and looking for the device it wont discover it? Or are you trying to search without signing in.
Basically you have to have an account, you can register in the account even using facebook if your super lazy
Once signed up and logged in go to the search device part and make sure the light is flashing on the middle controller (the round looking bit with the button on the LED kit)
Once discovered you click it and enter your wifi password once thats done then go to your wifi connections and connect to the LED strip then go back to the app and all should be well
Let me know how that goes for you

cheers, I'll try that again. I have mifit so already have account, but maybe I'll try a new one and see if that works. with yeelight once I signed in, basically I could see a 'virtual' strip light, but I couldn't actually connect to it or anything, never got prompted for WiFi foolery or anything. I'll see how far I get with this new info. thanks for your time :-)
