Think it's odd the 90quid 2ds console comes with the game, but the 180quid console doesn't

Looks like a good price! Only caveat is the Switch is due out soon and if the 3DS slowly gets laid off after its release and the rumoured pokemon port appear on it, then this may be better putting towards that!

2DS - The nations least favourite way to play the nations most popular handheld console games. Many of us find it odd that such a dreadful unit exists, and more so that people buy that old tech.
EDIT: PS I have noticed via 2DS deals and discussion on here quite a lot of people who buy a 2DS do so because they want to avoid the "3D" for their kids. So many don't realise you don't need to buy a 2DS to avoid 3D gaming. I would not go as far as say Nintendo are mis-selling, but they could be a bit more helpful and produce a 'guide to which 2DS/3DS handheld console to buy'. Even a simple tick box chart like what features you get with each unit would do.

Ok that's not a bad start. C'mon Nintendo, start selling all those beautiful themed limited edition units US and Japan get now. If you ship them, we will buy them.

My kids and I all have 2ds because it's half the price of the 3ds... so £250 for x3 consoles (I got the limited edition before xmas), rather than ~£510 for 3ds. This is HUKD, I thought we were all about saving money?

HUKD is clearly about saving money on purchases, but the 2DS and 3DS are different products. It's not exactly fair to say that because one is cheaper than the other it's always better, although I appreciate they do mostly the same thing. People pay extra for the better design of the 3DS and the additional features of the New 3DS. That may not be important for your ideology or circumstance but for others it may be.

Nintendo have said the Switch is not a replacement for the 3DS and the the 3DS is not going to be dropped for quite sometime. But have to say I have concerns with that statement as the 3DS is like gold dust, Nintendo themselves have only just got stock in for the white console and now this. I want a orange one, nowhere did it say it was LE but nowhwere has them at decent prices just scalpers.

The 3DS has been low stock or no stock at most online retailers for months. Nintendo are obviously not going to suggest the 3DS will become a legacy device soon because of the Switch, it would reduce sales and annoy recent customers, but it is inevitable that the Switch will be the main focus for Nintendo going forward and 3DS support will be phased out. However there are a few 3DS releases going forward because of the large customer base. The 3DS does have a decent library of titles too so it's not as if buying one now or in the future would be an awful decision. Unless the pricing completely crashes it looks like the Switch is going to be approximately twice as expensive as a 3DS too, which may keep the 3DS selling and encourage continued support for it.

Nintendo also said the Gameboy Advanced would not be dropped once the DS was released. We all know how that turned out.
The same was done with the Wii and you still believe Nintendo when they say it once more for the 3DS?
The Switch will replace the 3DS. It's the only reason to go with the portable design.

Grabbed 2DS last week for £63 off of Amazon. Had a 3DS before and found the 3D to be a gimmicky pain. Loving the 2DS so far. Find it more comfortable to hold and it plays all the games I was interested in. Screen is also clearer than my old 3DS Xl was as it's not stretching the image.
But yeah, keep telling people the 2DS is an abomination mate...

We have all made bad purchase decisions in our time. It is normal to try and justify a bad purchase decision we have made by looking for some positives and stretching what little positives there are if even any. If all you can afford is a 2DS then that is what you should clearly buy.
But in terms of value for money, quality, gaming experience, technology, and the pros/cons of both consoles, there can only be 1 winner if your sensible about it and apply some rationality. The HUKD gaming community is generally quite good, and we all have a responsibility to provide good, fair and accurate information to help people understand the choices and get value for money.

My god you are insufferable. Could have easily afforded a New 3DS, but when I looked in to the exclusive game(s) for it, and games that utilise the C stick, it didn't seem worth the added cost, not to mention I'll never actually take it out of the house so portability is of zero concern to me. But hey, continue to try and judge people you have no information on and don't understand their motivations behind their purchases, it's quite amusing. If we're doing that, bet you have the Switch pre-ordered and can't wait to play all of the exclusive AAA game available at launch for it?
Carry on with your "Hurr durr, I'm rich and have a New 3DS, your poor and only have a 2DS, shame! shame!" routine if it makes you feel better.
Oh, and could be easily turned around to you justifying your purchase of the New 3DS

I'm not saying the 2ds is a better console, not by any stretch, but it's a great piece of kit for the price and could hardly be described as dreadful.

I am not rich (just for the record). Only tried to be friendly, considerate and tactful after initially replying directly to someone 2DS comment. I am not getting into that whole trading insults thing now either, and will withdraw from future comment on this particular thread.

Sorry, but you were the one looking down on people and throwing around judgement, you don't get to take the moral high ground and "withdraw" from the discussion. You claimed you were here to provide good and fair information to help people understand their choices and get value for money. That's exactly what I was doing. Is the New 3DS better than the 2DS? Yes. Should everyone buy a New 3DS over the 2DS? No. I'd argue you were providing misinformation to people, as you were dismissive of the 2DS, and parents looking on here might read your posts and feel they need to buy a N3DS rather than a 2DS.
If you have a New 3DS and you're happy with it, Excellent. For myself (and I'd guess many others), the added cost of the New 3DS didn't make sense. I might pick one up when there are more exclusives available for it the interest me, but right now the 2DS provides me with a way to play all of the 3DS library that interested me. It's not simply a cost issue, which you seemed to believe was the main reason people would opt for a 2DS over an N3DS. It's a case that I don't feel the compulsion to spend an extra £100 on features I won't use or, in the case of the larger screen on the N3DS XL, will actually impact my enjoyment due to the image being stretched.

I've owned both the old and *new* 3DS and the *new* one has much improved 3D, where you don't need to hold it perfectly still in a tiny sweet-spot anymore. You can also turn 3D off on every 3DS model. Also both old and *new* 3DS models come in a regular and XL size so if you want a sharper less stretched screen you can buy the regular.
Only advantage to the 2DS is price.
Having said all that, I wouldn't buy a 3DS at todays prices. I paid £115 with a game for my *new* 3DS.
teddy1590
25 Jan 171#22
I understand it has improved 3D, with eye tracking which relocates the 3D sweetspot relative to your eyes. I never really had a problem holding the old XLin in the sweet spot though, the 3D effect in every game apart from Mario 3D land just felt a bit pointless and distracting. I did consider getting the standard New 3DS, but as I said earlier, there are so few games available just now which utilise the c stick that it felt superfluous, and there are even fewer games which take advantage of the increased processing power.
I'm not arguing the New 3DS is a superior machine, it has better tech and is more future proof, but my point of contention was with noahsdad essentially writing off the 2DS calling it useless, whilst claiming to be performing some great public service to the site by providing people with "good, fair and accurate information to help people understand the choices and get value for money.". Given he's telling people to ignore the 2DS and to only buy the New 3DS, regardless of their circumstances, I felt his information was far from that.

Switch release is irrelevant, unless you really can't play video games if it's not on the latest console which IMO is absurd. That and the Switch is considerably more expensive and developed with a slightly different intention then the 3DS. In other words, quit going on about the Switch release! You still play Gameboy games don't ya?
The only thing I warn you about with the new 3DS XL is the build quality. It's ~poor. I've ordered 2 new 3DS XL now, both with faults out of the box. People have been complaining about poor build quality: buttons feel mushy and broken, dpad is loose and rattles, touchscreen backlit causes slight distortions on screen, plastics feel sharp at the joins to the extent it may irritate hands. If you experience any of these faults and are not happy, return your item for a refund or replacement, or send it off to Nintendo to be assessed and repaired. They are common faults!
