Can anyone please post a link for 4 gb ram this laptop will take?

The memory config must be 4+2 which is LOADS for normal Windows10 (non-serious-gaming) use. To get 8 you have to through away 2 (or Ebay for a couple of squids) and buy 4 more for about £30 (less on Ebay if you can find a reliable seller) http://uk.crucial.com/gbr/en/compatible-upgrade-for/Medion/akoya-e6431
This is looking better value as the days go on. Before Xmas you could get an i3+256GB SSD+FHD +15inch for less than £300. Nothing anywhere near that now (if buying new).
Depends how complex your models are. I would personally put some more RAM in. Wouldn't want to run Win10 on less than 8GB, but 16GB would make it pretty good. The SSD running system will definitely help though.

I bought this and have been using it for 2 days. I added a new Microsoft office from argos and now it keeps breaking down, I cannot get on office or the internet. It has Microsoft edge, tried Chrome and IE also, it;s terrible! Voted FREEZING!!!

That's really unfortunate , but you can't blame the hardware on a software issue. Do a factory restore and re-install Office.

You're calling me at best lazy or ignorant yet won't provide evidence of a currently available deal that is better? I'd suggest rather than throwing insults around at me which are completely uncalled for that if you've nothing positive or constructive to add, you don't troll. Reasonable enough I'd think.

Just search the computers thread on here. I'm not going to waste my time copying and pasting threads for him when he can't do that himself but is too lazy (or ignorant) to do so.

He asked you to show him. Why are people that are happy to instantly dismiss a deal, always less than forthcoming in offering links to the contrary? It seems to be the unspoken rule of HUK.
I mean, no offence; I'm genuinely curious too, what with both SSD and HDD; Full HD Screen, 2 x USB 3, Good range i5 processor - it seems to tick all the boxes that I was looking for and be a reasonable price. But I'm happy to defer to those who say otherwise, as long as they.. you know.. supply evidence to the contrary.

There have been LOADS of better deals on here.
i5/860m/960m/8gb/1TB laptops for less than £500, HP thin light flippy convertibles for £600 etc. A guy on here linked to some excellent AO.com deals only a few weeks ago.
You just have to keep your peeled for the deals.
Spending £500 for an ancient spec Medion like this is like throwing down the drain when there is so much better out there for a similar price.

#15 is where the figure 64MB was first posted. The post is misleading as it could be genuine, it could be sarcasm but most importantly where most people expect dedicated VRAM to be in the order of Gigabytes, this would seem a paltry amount. So the post is misleading because it doesn't offer any further explanation regarding the 64MB memory and thus required expanding upon.
thekanester
1 Feb 17#39
Not misleading. It has 64MB of dedicated VRAM cache that it can use so that it doesn't constantly hog the main RAM bus, which is slow for GPUs to make use of. It's not a massive amount of cache, but it is apparently significant enough to provide significant performance increase over the same chipset without it (in certain situations).
The 550 is broadly equivalent to the Iris 6100 but without the cache and you can see from gaming benchmarks that it is significantly faster.
e.g. For XCom 2 @1280x720 it's reported as 30.2fps vs 13.1fps.

I had a MacBook Pro with the same Intel Iris 550 graphics. It's an excellent integrated GPU. I could run GTA V at a perfectly good 45-60 FPS at 1080p with settings on low with V-sync off. I think it's about the same or better than my Surface Book's dedicated GPU.

1 Feb 17#37
Agreed both look good to me (no interest in gaming so GPU doesn't matter to me). Been looking for good performance £500ish laptop with FHD, SSD and reasonable processor. As you say this has a better CPU than most similar priced/speced laptops I've seen posted. In fact according to cpubenchmark.net i5-6267u scores higher than the latest gen i5-7200u. It seems to be one of the faster 'u' processors I've seen.
i5-6200u - 3939
i5-6267u - 4941
i5-7200u - 4724
Only downside is just 6gb ram using both slots but presuming at least 1 is easily accessible that should be easy and cheap enough to upgrade.

anyone buying this as primarily a gaming laptop needs to have a word. seriously, put in an extra 2-300 and you'll get a half decent dedicated gaming laptop.
I paid 1700 for a 1 month old (bought for 2700 on ebay) I7, MSI GT80 18" HD screen, 32gb ram, 2 X GT1080 , 1tb ssd, 1tb HDD, Blu-ray burner, 5 year warranty - it's absolutely incredible. have had an amazing years gaming with it, and it'll be good for another 3-5 years.
my point is, if you show a little patience, and shop on eBay, you can get practically brand new laptops heavily below retail.
my last 3 laptops I've all bought from there (I upgrade every 2 years but can't see any need to upgrade this MSI).
shows iris 540 playing gta v. i had never heard of iris so my apologies for ignorance. i seeked an nvidia gpu for my laptop (got 940m second hand for 279 on ebay) as my previous dell xps 18 with built in graphics had a gorgeous 1080p screen but was awful at..
yes you guessed... xcom 2 .. and given I am addicted to it I needed something better to get my hit. iris 550 might be ok as per comments. i recommened youtube for real world examples.

Like a lot of posts on here, it seems if the first few vote cold for no particular reason other than they don't like the look of it then its doomed. IIRC (haven't been on it recently) nobody actually commented why they were voting cold.
I think this is a good deal (and the 17"), the 6267 is far superior performance wise to the 6200 in most of the deals we see on here.
What makes this deal so hot and the other cold? 15" vs 17", 1.5tb hdd vs 1tb, £20 difference, but look very similar spec otherwise. Personally I'd rather have the bigger screen since I'd be using it as desktop replacement.

LankyChris to DiyDave
31 Jan 17#28
Not sure how easy it is but it says 2 slots, 2 used so you'd be taking some of the existing 6gb out. I asked the same question in the 17" laptop I posted the link to above.

K1LLER_HORNET to Rebeccaanubis

The SSD should be used for the operating system, programs and frequently accessed files. 128GB should be comfortable.
The HDD should be used for storage (photos, music, video, games etc).

I've never seen that GPU in a laptop that price to be fair.
fishmaster
31 Jan 172#24
64Mb is totally misleading from the person that posted it before me. This GPU can utilise system RAM, OK system RAM is slower than dedicated video RAM, however it will still work. Notebookcheck.net says the GPU performance is around the same as a GT930M. Passmark rates it higher. It'll be fine for some moderate gaming but let's not kid ourselves this even competes with a very modest desktop GPU, it doesn't.
fishmaster
31 Jan 171#23
Intel Iris 550 Graphics (64MB dedicated eDRAM) can utilise system RAM as well.
Passmark score is better than Geforce GT940M, not as good as GT950M, those have dedicated VRAM though. It should be able to play most games, although many won't play at 1080P in Ultra of course
what sort of games are you talking about? best thing is to youtube search say gta v or dota 2 and the name of the graphics chip and dee what it dhows. 64mb seems way too small.

Font smoothing blurs fonts to make them appear more rounded, if you want the sharpest possible fonts then you need to turn it off.

I disagree - one of the reasons I like Medion stuff is that I have had plenty of desktop units from them in the past. My first ever was in around 2004 I think with a P4 3.4GHz processor with HT! Never caused any problems. Also have 2 base units I use for work, an i3-4160 based unit and an A8-5500 unit too. Finally, my personal PC is an i5-4460 system and all have been reliable to deal with and have had no issues.
I've never had a laptop mind, but based on the desktops my own personal experience has never been anything other than exceptional with great build quality.
