Plug the mifi into you laptop/pc ( I used virtual machine on my mac) via USB cable.
When you plug it in for the first time, an autorun disk appears to install the driver. Let it!
Once installed, unpack the firmware zip and run the .exe it will search for the mifi then ask for a password. Type in the Flash code you got earlier.
It should install ok.
Once done, let it reboot and log in to check its ok. It should still look like three branded MiFi.
Now unzip the WebGUI zip and run the exe. Follow instructions , let it reboot once done.
You might find your login/password doesn't work. It should be admin/admin but if you can't login, hold the reset button on the inside of the mifi for 8 seconds to clear it to defaults.
After that it should work fine! Default IP is 192.168.8.1 login/pass admin/admin
Mine seems more responsive and it adds the wifi extender feature plus firewall stuff.
good deal, but that device is locked to Three I'm guessing? if not, very hot. thanks.

Did seriously consider that but after all discounts/travel cost etc, I am saving about £10.
Also, should anything go wrong, I am sure Amazon will offer a replacement, no questions asked.

Hardly the same sort of deal though. That requires you to take out a rolling 30 day contract which from experience is difficult to cancel without paying two months. It's okay but the Osprey Mini (a similar device) has been offered on the same deal for £4.99 a couple of times recently.
Rolling contract can be cancelled with only 30 days notice

Often when I go camping there is a hotspot but it doesnt reach where I'm staying. Potentially this could extend it?

Great price - if you are member of Prime.
I use an unlocked TP Link M7350 and these Mifis are brilliant bits of kit especially to use when travelling/on holiday etc.
Either buy a local SIM or get a 3 Feel at Home and works straight off the bat.
Only thing to be aware of is that the USA works on different bands so they may not work there, or if they do, you may only get 2G. If you want to use one in the USA better off buying one there.

What's the difference using one of these to tethering from phone? I need something for internet in a static caravan but I can't work out whether something like this is needed as isn't it the same to use phone??

The recent data sim deal from Three (£28/24gb for 2yrs) doesn't let you tether according to some users but does work in a mifi.

17 Jan 17#16
ahh, I am with EE so allowed to tether

Not really. I bought a couple of Three 24gb data sims for HK in the summer so I really need a mifi. It's surprising how much a Three HK data sim cost compared to the UK bearing in mind Three is a HK company.

17 Jan 171#20
Quite often a better range, can connect up to 10 devices (so good for families), you can keep your phone SIM in and buy a local data sim deal if travelling abroad so often works out cheaper, many data sims deals are cheaper than those for tethering.
I dont see how the can unlock it as nowhere to enter a code on it,,, it is a tenner so I will take a punt, let you know tomorrow after I pick it up

It's not just £10, the service terms including a 30day rolling contract, minimum £15 a month (5GB data)
Min cost is £9.99(device) + £15(contract) = £24.99 (provided you cancel immediately by providing 30 days notice)
grayslick
17 Jan 171#24
I can confirm this as I bought one yesterday, was in the store for 40 mins whilst they processed the 3 contract at £15 per month. Trying to cancel the "rolling contract" with 3 was a very long phone call, not an easy process, be prepared to be bombarded with alternatives and they didn't believe I could buy a 24gb prepaid sim for under £30 from amazon that will last 2 years.
Also, my device wont hold a charge so back to PC World I go!
Anyone know if these will work ok in the USA with the Prepaid 24gb data only SIM cards?
3 seem quite generous with their roaming data rules, but not 100% sure these devices work on US networks
I believe that you cannot tether Using 3UK sims in Hong Kong. You can put them in the phone and use the data but from what I've read, tethering abroad is not allowed in feel at home countries.

It will work. They may block you if they find a laptop using the data, but of you just tether a phone it will work fine.

I got the 24gb 3 Trio data sim a week or two ago but it was mentioned that speeds were throttled when abroad and 4G was nigh on impossible.
