I own this product so will give small review: overclocks well if thats what you are into, or if run stock or adjusted fan curves it can be as quiet as a kitten. Performance is excellent, I game at 2160p and the majority of the games I actually play (as I tend to buy Triple A games a couple years after they come out e.g Witcher 3 and GTA V I bought this month, and rocket league/cities skylines and indie games) I can run either maxed out or dropping around to a custom high-mix. 4K60fps! It exists! :man: And it has all that proprietary **** that people love (Side note: I do wish it were compatible with Free-sync as that was my upgrade path for my monitor and G-Sync is ridic expensive) like shadowplay or whatever thats called now, and ungimped performance in Nvidia titles for the most part! It fits in my shoebox sized case (Coolermaster Elite 130) very nicely without thermal issues. Overall it's great as I can see it lasting me a couple years with probably dropping settings whilst true 4K GPUs came out, so anyone that plays at 1080p should get some nice hiiiiigh framerates in most titles!

I was quite lucky and bought it last August whilst in the U.S for $360. Still a pretty decent price for around here, but maybe some shops will start a nice price war over 1070s who knows

I received mine yesterday and mine too was the non OC version but no biggy. I just notice though that they are offering a free game now on 10 series cards

I currently have MSI GTX 970 in SLI but with a lot of games not supporting sli at the minute I was looking to upgrade to a 1070 hopefully a MSI but with this one at this price I'm tempted do you think it's worth upgrading now? I just bought resident evil 7 and I'm a little scared of running it in case my 970 doesn't have the ability to run it well up to now I haven't struggled with most games on full settings except with forza horizon 3
Burnz0
27 Jan 17 #55
I agree. I'm gaming on 1080p at the moment, but sometimes abit of overkill is actually abit of future-proofing. If I had a 970, I wouldn't of upgraded though.

Does anyone know what the promotion is for buying a GTX 1070 at the moment? Is it WatchDogs 2? I can't find anything.
vulcanproject
27 Jan 17 1 #54
As with anything as time passes and new games arrive, performance slides backwards. GTX1070 isn't huge overkill for 1080p. It's somewhat more than you can manage with I agree, but then you sit down with games like Watch Dogs 2 or Deus Ex Mankind Divided where you can barely get 60FPS in 1080p even on a GTX1070 you'll think about that carefully.

Ideally it's a card for 1440p now and you'll ditch it for a new one once the next refresh hits in say 12 months, but you'll already be turning down settings on a lot of games within that time.

GTX1070 would be a good 1080p card for several years then.

But I want 144fps on 1080p ultra!
Burnz0
27 Jan 17 #50
I wouldn't upgrade personally, I went from 770 to 1070 lol. It just depends on you though, it could make a difference running things at 4K on ultra (you might be looking at sub-30fps on the 970 as opposed to just above). The main difference on the 10 series is that they run with less power, if you're gaming at 1080p there could be no point in upgrading.
Burnz0
27 Jan 17 #49
Okay so I've shopped around, and I'm tempted to buy this for my LAN rig. When the GTX 1080Ti is released, what are the chances the prices of GTX 1070's will be lower than this? Looking at the prices of 1070's now this is actually a VERY good deal. Most cards are £400+.

I know you're not psychics, but if anyone remembers what happened last series with the 980Ti please remind me. Or was the 980Ti released at the same time as the others? I honestly can't remember.

Thank you for the great and detailed response. I purchased it yesterday. I'm actually also buying a new display. Most likely a 27" 2560x1440. But I'm now thinking maybe a 4K display perhaps? My friend recommends a 4K Samsung TV (UE49KU6400) as a monitor. Though I think that might be too large?

I have the MSI 1070 gaming X 8G which is a one of the fastest 1070 cards, I haven't had to overclock the card yet. Then again I've heard that there's not much headroom on the 1070 series.
I can confirm that these cards will easily run the latest games at 2160. Don't forget that at 4K, all AA can be turned off thus releasing plenty of power. Then again, my card runs all games maxed out with AA but you can't see any difference or improvement with AA.
This looks like a great deal. If you are running at 1080p then an OC is a waste of time.
I didn't buy the the 1080 series simply because that level of power isnt needed to play the top games at 2160p.
I read magazines and laugh when they review the top end nvidia cards in relation to 4K gaming. I don't know how they set up their rigs but if some of the cards they review struggle with 4K then they are incompetent or liars.
I knew my 1070 card would easily meet my 2160 requirements as my preview card, the 970 8g could run games at that resolution.
Once again many with say this is t possible.
Believe me it is and we are being told very misleading statements and reviews regarding high end cards and 4K gaming.
This card is on sale at a great price. It's going to be future proofed at 1080p and at 2160p you should get at least two or three years from this card. By which time the next generation will be out and we all start again.

The fastest slot power only card is specifically, a GTX1050Ti

A model like this: http://www.ebuyer.com/762683-palit-geforce-gtx-1050ti-4gb-gddr5-dual-link-dvi-hdmi-displayport-graphics-ne5105t018g1-1070f

It has no additional power connectors. If you buy another model, make sure it does not.

http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/nvidia-geforce-gtx-1050-ti,review-33685-4.html Here is a review of a standard GTX1050ti and includes 750ti tests. It offers a reasonable jump in performance in most games, although it isn't scorching.

Download latest GTX1050ti drivers from Nvidia and leave them for later. Uninstall the drivers of your old card in windows. Shut it down, pull the plug and open the case. Ground yourself (touch something metal to ground, it's unlikely you'll be statically charged up but maybe you are a fan of wool, who knows lol)

Your old card will likely have one or two screws that hold the rear of the card to the back of the case, and a small plastic clip/lever on the motherboard that holds the card's base connector in that you just press to pop the card out.

Then do the reverse with the new card. Make sure it is seated firmly and squarely in the slot before you put the screws in, boot up the machine. Install GTX1050ti drivers you downloaded earlier.

Sell old card and recover some money. You'll easy get £50-60 on ebay for a working 750ti. Job done.

Having upgraded from 970 to a 1070 on a 1080p/120Hz screen, I can't agree with that. The difference in GTAV was immediately obvious. Instead of 55 fps average with drops to 40 it would stay over 60 and always feel smooth, on higher settings than the 970 could manage. Also let me have a good experience with the badly optimized Dishonored 2. ARK felt immediately smoother too. Arkham Knight, again liquid smooth on full settings.

Hi can someone help me please , I have a Lenovo desktop with i7 4790 16gb 120sd 2TB and a GTX 750ti . As you can see it,s not a gaming rig the power supply is 300-400 watts. Could someone tell me what card I can use from the new generation. Also could someone tell me how differcult it is to fit. My gaming days were the late 80.s so have no idea, I don,t want to play the latest games ( too many keys and no joystick ) . I do read all of this threads but still haven,t learn,t so if someone could help me I would be very grateful . Thank you n advance
tsed to kev72
26 Jan 17 #18
Fairly easy to fit, pop off the case, slot it in the PCI-E expansion and plug in the power supply to the side of the card. 400Watts should be enough depending on your make of power supply and the fact its powering a 750Ti, it should be fine.
vulcanproject to kev72
26 Jan 17 #24
I would recommend considering a PSU upgrade if you have a generic OEM one in the machine. Your problem will be that the 750ti you have only needs to be supplied the power from the slot it sits in. It does not use an extra power cable required from higher end cards like these, because potentially your power supply may not even have these cables.

Therefore you are likely limited to cards that run only on slot power. The fastest cards that only need slot power are the GTX1050 (check the model, some require an extra connector) and the RX 460. They are reasonable upgrades but not enormous on the 750ti what is now a fairly slow card anyway. About 30-40 percent faster or so.

If you are not a major gamer this will probably be acceptable. However if you are in a thread looking at a card that costs £340 and considering spending that, you should buy a new quality power supply for £60 or so, and then you can have any card you want that will fit in your case.

A PSU and an RX 480/GTX1060 6GB are true gaming cards for 1080p and with a decent PSU maybe £280 total.

are these roughly your build? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/list/qFwX3F it recommends atleast 333w id still go for 450w minimum, tomshardware has some pretty good psu guides and the corsair RM550X is what i have but it'll set you back another £80

Hope that helps

It means that if you go via the TopCashback website, you can get 3.45% cashback at this retailer. The amount they've quoted takes this into account.

Note that cashback isn't guaranteed, and you don't get it immediately (it's often a couple of months).

I'm also sitting with the same processor and graphics card and looking to upgrade so glad I stumbled on this thread. I'm hoping I can get a 1060 6gb which should be a good upgrade to the 750ti. I have a 450w psu. Look into the 1060 if you would rather spend a bit less than the 1070 but still get good graphics. I'm also trying to buy a steam link so I can sit in the living room and play games with the new card on my big tv
Themadcow to walky332000
26 Jan 17 #26
Thats the thing for me. I'd like VR but ultimately my main use will be playing games on a 4k TV - so I've assumed that a 1070 is minimum either for 'OK' 4k gaming, or decent 1440p (which should look decent enough)

Yeah as you say it's a lottery, with a factory OC you're just guaranteed those clocks. The card I've currently got is the GTX 570 which I've overclocked using MSI Afterburner (or EVGA Precision X, can't remember now!) so this will be a solid upgrade regardless. I've ordered, so will find out soon I suppose! Thanks again

400w is pushing it a bit depending on how efficient your psu is. Testing suggests 450w is minimum depending on the other components in your pc. Replacing your psu as well might be a good idea.

No problem  I think my overclock from the high-performance factory settings managed nearly 15% higher fps stable in 3DMark Firestrike & Timespy, and then burned in for stability on Afterburner. I've dialled it back a touch to where I was more comfortable with the noise but the cooler seems fine given the chip will reach it's limits before thermals become an issue for me and the 1070s are all the same chip so that's just a lottery

Good price for sure. From what I know it's not the most popular though due to being a bit on the longer side and not the best looking. Still, inside a decent size case and if you (rightly) don't care about looks then it's a decent card.

These 1070s rarely seem to be under £350 except that odd £300 around New Year.
