Two romantic cities in one trip, and Valentines day too. This is a great value trip, and I've put this together for those that don't want to spend too much but want a really nice stay and the accommodation is central but really lovely with great reviews. It's not 5* hotels, but they have good reviews and include breakfast in both. In Verona you'll arrive on the evening of Valentines Day, so suprise your Romeo or Juliette with a trip to Italy! In Verona you'll stay at the Casa al Giardino Giusti which is in a central location, walking distance to the city, but buses are also available. You'll spend 2 nights in Verona, enough to visit the arena and the many Romeo and Juliette 'sights'.
On 16th you will catch the train to Venice. It's just an hour away and there are various train times. You can get your tickets on the Trein Italia website. No matter how many times I go to Venice, my favourite way to arrive is on the train as you step out and face the Grand Canal - its a perfect way to arrive into Venice. If you catch the morning train you will arrive into Venice in the morning and then your flight home doesn't leave until the evening of the 17th February to get you home so you have close to 2 days in Venice (with only the expensive of 1 nights accommodation). The accommodation in Venice is the Al Saor which has a small kitchen area, breakfast included and the reviews really compliment the hosts. It's not a huge hotel, rather a smaller B&B but you'll get a true Italian welcome and it's only 6 minutes walk from the Rialto Bridge so you can easily explore Venice.

The only flight I can find from Glasgow to Verona at a reasonable price is around £60ish one way possible with BA and it takes 25 hours!!! Probably quicker and cheaper to get a train to Birmingham airport even if you have to get a hotel in Birmingham on the return journey!!

Good deal. Not a huge amount to do in Verona but it's very pretty. Venice is unbearably busy in summer so although it will be cooler, out of season is much better to actually get around the city and see stuff. So many Venice breaks are in hotels that are too far out in my opinion - this is a central hotel so you won't waste time travelling. Venice can be very expensive to eat out in, but look online for recommended cafes etc. and don't sit down in St Marks square without knowing the price first.
I haven't done this particular train trip, but the Italian railways are generally good and easy to use.

My two favourite cities! Love Verona great shops, restaurants and the amphitheater. Venice is just beautiful anytime of year but much quieter this time if year. The trains are great allocated seats so no standing like rubbish British trains! Want to go now!

I love Verona too. I spent 3 nights there and got thre Verona card. Such a pretty city and you could always visit the Lake Garda area too. I've used the Italian trains and they are very good. I don't rate the overnight trains with Trein Italia though, from Paris to Venice was not good. By contrast from Venice to Vienna on the overnight train was amazing.
