Yeah, wasn't expensive so so thought I might as well...

Live chat said they could only do 7%, so I just went for the 10% code.

When is yours due?

It's a desktop replacement where I had a 128gb SSD, 2 400gb HDD's and a 2TB HDD. I didn't want to compromise on the HDD if I could. It was £300 more than the 512HDD but that's an SSD, + 32GB RAM. 4k Screen is better than the FHD for everything except battery but it's likely staying in the house 95% of the time.

3year warranty because of the stories here

I ordered on 02/02/2017 and It was delivered yesterday 08/02/2017 (FHD, 512GB version.

I was absolutely over the moon with it until I noticed that the right arrow key isn't attached properly so it flips up if you press the right side of it. Currently debating whether to have it fixed or ask for a replacement.

My head is telling me that a £1599 retail laptop should be perfect out of the box and what else may be wrong if the QC hasn't been 100% on this machine... Then again, I don't want to wait a fortnight for a replacement!

Is anyone able to run 3DMark (techspot.com/dow…75/?evp=0ebeebd91291fbf4bfb14a4cefc68416&file=1) on their 9560 and let me know their score on Firestrike 1.1

My results at 3dmark.com/3dm…467

Mine score seems lower than I would expect - it's also picking up the GTX 1050 as "Generic", even though I've definitely got the latest drivers and pretty sure it's running through the 1050 and not the Intel HD

Cheers

Yep, dont get excited until you can track it in the UK, I don't know if things have changed but it used to land in the UK then you would have to take part of the shipment number and put that into UKMail to track it to the door.

I have always been cross shipped a new one then they collect the faulty. Go for it, why should you accept poor QC on a new laptop and have a complete strip down to get to the keyboard.
get
9 Feb 17 #9
From reading several threads here (and elsewhere) there seems to be a lot of issue with QC on the XPS range that I didn't realise existed... For the price you would expect such issues to be rare. Definitely pleased I took the extended warranty - something I generally refuse to do as we are well protected with consumer rights (for up to 6 years at least), more so if paying by credit card.

UK Mail. Great. Fingers crossed I get it before the 2018 models are out!

So I went for an XPS 13 instead off the Dell Outlet for £1107 with the QHD screen, 16gb, 512ssd and am having issues with the coil whine, the screen flashing and cutting out etc. While on the chat talking about returning it I called through to sales and explained the situation. They didnt take much convincing to take the 15inch one down to £1748.46 with 3 Year warranty, 4k, 16gb, 512ssd!

All ordered now so while I wait for the XPS 15 I will drag on the XPS 13 return so I at least have a laptop to play with!

17 Feb 17 #24
Trying to order a CNX95606 and have spoken to a representative who said that the finger print reader option isn't available with this model. They have the options for all the other models apart from this. #

The representative was able to offer me a 7% discount and said this was the most she was able to offer.

I've also now noticed both quidco and TCB are offering cash back on dell now i'm not sure if they work with the dell code above.

Has anyone been able to get the model i'm after with finger print sensor? what did you guys say to get the 13-14% discount thats been discussed.

thanks

17 Feb 17 #25
I've just purchased, managed to get them to do the finger print reader and 3 year warranty for £1,581.40 (would have been £1,771.68). Dispatch March 2nd.

17 Feb 17 #26
Which model was that? 512GB ssd and 16gb ram? good deal!
sabian1982
18 Feb 17 #27
Yup, that's the one but with the finger print reader added. Could have just got the standard 10% off but opted to upgrade the warranty for piece of mind so essentially £20-£30 saved on the laptop, free finger print reader and free 3 year warranty.
skaif
18 Feb 17 #28
1080 screen?
sabian1982
18 Feb 17 #29
Yes! I did consider the 4K screen and the touch option but it was quite a jump in price not to mention the battery will last considerably longer without the 4K screen.
LukeJC94
18 Feb 17 #30
I still can't see the fingerprint option ?
sabian1982
18 Feb 17 #31
It's not listed on the website, talk to live support and they will be able to add it free of charge however there is a slight delay in the UK due to the change.
skaif
18 Feb 17 #32
Its there, you have to add to basket and then go back in and edit the order. Look for the keyboard / palm rest option
sabian1982
18 Feb 17 #33
Ah i didn't see that... was there anything else i could have changed for free i wonder :stuck_out_tongue: mine worked out as a saving of 10.74% and I couldn't get the agent to do a better deal.
GoNz0-
18 Feb 17 #34
AFAIK it was the 1st few on here that got the fingerprint reader for free. Since it became an option we have been charged.
sabian1982
18 Feb 17 #35
Definitely worth asking live support then - i got it for free.
skaif
18 Feb 17 #36
I didn't get it for free but I managed to swing the fingerprint scanner, 4k screen and 16gb / 512ssd for under 1750 including 3 year warranty. So again saving around 12% which is effectively £50 off retail price and free 3yr warranty.
LukeJC94
18 Feb 17 #37
Are people managing to use the 6.6 back from quidico and 4.6 from topcashback, as well as the £100 off ?
GoNz0-
19 Feb 17 #38
Er no. you can't use 2 cashback sites and Dell will no doubt cancel any cashback as you have used a code breaking the T&C from both sites.
LukeJC94
19 Feb 17 #39
Then I will ask like the members above, what is it your saying in the live chat to get more of a discount ?
skaif
19 Feb 17 #40
I did the following. *Note that some steps are optional
1. On live chat be super friendly and spritely and say that your after the best laptop in the world while commenting on how nice their name is and how their day is going.
2. Give them the code above the add to basket button to select the right machine.
3. Say you want the add ons and extras (fingerprint reader, 3 year warranty, happy ending)
4. Ask them to give you their best price - even though this wont be at the first attempt - most likely around 6-8% maybe 10% if your lucky at this stage
5. Tell them its too much and your target price is £X (12% off what it is on the site - E.G mine was £1750 when the full price was £1986 for the spec) Right now they have £100 off so I would be pushing for that plus 12% which would have made mine £1660 or thereabouts.
6. They will say it cant be done. Give them a sad face :disappointed:
7. Your response needs to be along the lines of "Get me the price in step 5 and I will buy it now. Speak to a manager if you need to but I am ready to buy" Give them happy face
8. At this point they bit and gave me the price I wanted, the rest of the deal was completed over the phone.

Let us know how you get on

So after a lot of checking, three dell representatives are saying that 1080p , non touch screen version is not available with a finger print sensor. I dont understand really, especially as some of the earlier posters have been able to get the laptop with the finger print sensor. any ideas guys?
warlockuk
22 Feb 17 #47
Ah, yeah - I just looked at that. Doesn't seem to be available, you're right.
Looks like now they also have a £100 off > £899 code on the site. So that brings the laptop down even more.

Again, contacting their sales guys will yield 10% off anyway.

Yup managed to get it sorted last night. Still getting random freezes all over the shop though. Particularly when running chrome. Think it may have something to do with on board graphics as the 1050 has not woken up at all

Just found this so will try reddit.com/r/D…ng/

28 Feb 17 #53
Any luck sorting it? If I update my intel drivers to the latest ones on their website and then the nvidia ones to the hotfix ones, I get an infinite boot loop of BSODs. Grating a bit now as I am crippled at work and have installed windows 3 times now!

Might be worth trying the fix on reddit https://www.reddit.com/r/Dell/comments/5tispj/xps_15_9560precision_55520_fix_for_lagstuttering/?sort=confidence

I am starting off with the driver update 1st and will take it from there (managed to type all this without waiting for it to catch up)
skaif
1 Mar 17 #56
Try this to see if you can replicate a problem I am having

Upgrade nvidia drivers to 378.77 hotfix, Intel 630 drivers to 15.45 and then leave the laptop plugged in after a restart.

Mine enters a boot loop where it bsods constantly and the only way to get it out is to unplug it.
GoNz0-
1 Mar 17 #57
No I don't have that. I have the intel 630 drivers I linked above and the nvidia hotfix the same as you.
Do you get a BSOD code?

It may be worth you using DDU to remove all traces of video drivers and reinstalling. guru3d.com/fil…tml
skaif
2 Mar 17 #58
BSOD message is Driver Power State Failure which could be anything. As soon as I plug in the power cable I get it so have to charge it and then use it for now. Dell are sending an engineer but I think it may be RAM related after a BSOD investigation.

Found a fix to stop the random GPU spikes as per this image for the 1050
http://i.imgur.com/ll8evZU.png

Basically need to disable the GPU and then enable it in device manager, after that it behaves itself.

sabian1982

I had been looking for an XPS 15 9550 on Dell Outlet.

Needed 512GB SSD, 16GB RAM.

9560 2017 FHD model: RRP: £1,599, £1,439.10 (if you manage 10% off) or £1,407.12 (if you manage 12% off).

9560 2017 4k Touch model: RRP: £1,799, £1,619.10 (if you manage 10% off) or £1,583.12 (if you manage 12% off).

I'm not into gaming so will be happy with the 9550 2016 model spec.

9550 2016 FHD model: RRP: £1,499, was on Offer at JL for £1,299 for a bit.

I managed to pick XPS 15 9550 2016 4K Touch up from Dell Outlet for £1,122.28 (incl 10% discount). Then got a further 10% discount instead of returning it so ended up costing me £987.61. My target was always to get it under £1k. Worth it to save £500 over the 2017 model. Happy days. The 4k Touch was a bonus, although it does eat your battery!

How did you get 2 10% discounts on dell outlet? I'm the same I want to get one for under 1k
mubashar
9 Mar 17 #68
When I purchased it, there was a 10% discount available for all systems. While within my 14 day return period, I rang them and highlighted that there is a system now available with better spec for less and plus there is now a 15% student discount available. My system has 2 x 8 GB RAM (as opposed to 1 x 16 GB) and my system has Dell Wireless card (as opposed to Killer). So I pitched them saying if 15% discount is available now and further 2% can be requested on chat, I am better off returning my current system and going for another one that is in my basket as we speak. I said it would cost Dell if I returned this and would be retain my current laptop if they would refund me £122 so that the net cost to me was £1k.

They did not appear to check the details of what was on offer. They offered 5% refund on paid price (not original price) and then 10% but I kept pushing them for that little bit more. I now have received the refund credit invoice and they refunded me £122 and than vat on top of that. So ended up costing me £975 (21.8% off original price) for a 2016 XPS 9550 4k Touch with a quadcore i7-6700HQ, 512 GB SSD, 16 GB RAM, Nvidia 960M 2GB with Windows 10 Pro. Yes, this was labelled with a scratch and dent and does not have any blemishes whatsoever (as most ppl vouch). Result. Now what to spend the £500 odd I saved??

Every haswell, skylake & Kabylake has it to some degree, you can't kill the noise a chip running at that speed makes, of course in a desktop you have plenty of stuff in the way to dampen it. If you can't hear it at the normal distance you use it at with slight background noise then it isn't a problem. If you are in a silent room you may notice it but that is about as good as it gets.

Yes some are worst than others and kicking up a stink will get you a mainboard swap.

If you get the 97 W hr battery withe the SSD , be aware that it uses up the HD drive bay, you can't add a 2nd drive.
