The camera at Argos (and John Lewis) actually comes with a different lens, one without image stabilisation, something that is important if you’re taking photos without a tripod (apparently!). The non-IS lens seems to be newer, however (it is mark III rather than mark II). On Canon’s own website they are selling the camera with the IS lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS II zoom lens) for £40 more than the camera with the non-IS lens (EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 III zoom lens) (the one being sold at Argos and John Lewis). So perhaps that says something about the relative value of the lenses.
So (as someone wanting an ‘entry-level’ DSLR) I’ve opted for the camera with the IS lens from Amazon as the better bet, even though the lens is older and you can get Quidco with Argos and a 2 year guarantee with John Lewis (it’s a one year Canon guarantee otherwise).

I'm tempted by the 100D deal at John Lewis, if you sell the extra lens I think it's a similar price to this.

I ordered this in New Year - I didn't post it at the time as it was out of stock - but it arrived within 10 days. Heat added - a great entry level SLR camera.

both lenses are same age, the number is only relevant to the type
so there is separate series for non stabilised etc

Junk camera. Spend the extra and get something decent, or go mirrorless.

It's not a junk camera, it's a perfectly good camera for a good price.

Junk. A 100D at its normal price is a much better deal.
