Please don't think of Halfords as a bike shop. It is very hit and miss (dependant on the member of staff) as to their bike knowledge. At £600 ish you should be able to get something reduced from the £1k mark from last year. Paul's Cycles are often good but most large shops will have deals. The boardmans are ok but for £600 and with some shopping around you can get better for your money and confidence that it will be set up correctly

wouldnt be able to justify parting with 300 quid to buy the worry about thieves.. i appreciate for you the joy from riding offsets the worry of it getting stolen and locking it right everytime etc etc..

Guys please stop posting hot road bike deals. I have not finished my Graphics card venture yet. Not these hot baby again! oO oO oO I am waiting for a Giant Propel advanced pro to come down but this as an everyday use bike is quite tempting.

buy a bottle of naked juice and you might win a bike.
Costs about £15 a year to insure, and I wouldn't use my road bike to nip down to the supermarket!

The frame on the Triban feels like scaffold poles compared to the Cannondale's lighter and better ride. Only real advantage of the Triban is the Sora shifters.

Yeah I use a D Lock (Kryptonite NewYork) and a standard chain for the wheels.
I have quick release on my tyres but that's what the chain is for anyway.

I lost a seat post & saddle (but my locks put them off trying to take the whole bike). So its one bike for leaving locked up and another one for long rides where you don't need to lock it up..

My knowledge of bike weights isn't great, but i'm guessing this would be without pedals installed. Therefore, is this quite heavy? And is overall weight one of the most important factors when buying a roadbike (if price is an issue). Thanks guys x

Looks pretty decent. Do you think a 58 would be a good choice for someone who is 6ft tall?

Not a pro but love my bikes and this looks exceptionally good for the price.
I am getting back into cycling myself and have just got my first road bike in (ahem) a few years after having mtb's and hybrids of late.
I am now sad I just bought a boardman but there was no way I could leave the boardman at the price I paid!
Anyone recommend a good insurer btw?

The weight is fine unless you plan to cat race. More important is the frame fit for your style of riding and the gear range.

Seems like you never ride a road bike before. You need to pop in one of the shops to feel about it. This one is aluminum and once you fall in love with road bike, you will get your full carbon (lowest below 5kg which is insane.) bike eventually. 9.52KG for an aluminum bike is quite fine.
Clisig
24 Jan 17#36
I suggest you to go to a shop to try it first. 58 is fine but maybe 56 is easier. All depends on your inside leg and your riding habit.
Hi mate, I clocked up quite a few miles last year on my road bike. It's a Carrera probably about £300 new from Halfords (I bought second hand) which seemed to be very heavy and found quite hard going at times. I know it's not exactly a good make! Do you think this would be a significant upgrade, or worth buying a second hand carbon for similar money??

- Most important is what you are going to use it for - this will hold its speed well on roads, and won't really go off-road - is that what you want? Short or long rides? - Then there's riding position - are you comfortable being bent over, or would you prefer flat bars? If you aren't sure, Evans offer test rides or borrow a bike from a friend. - Then there's fit - a good bike shop (probably not Halfords, unless you're lucky) can get this pretty accurate for you. And you can make minor changes by swapping parts. - Bike weight comes absolutely last - just eat fewer pies X) Seriously it's so much better and cheaper to lose 1kg off your body. Although eventually, lighter, stiffer wheels and better tyres make a worthwhile difference. Hold off on those until you are sure you'll enjoy biking though ... - If you're sure you want a road bike, a CAAD8 framed bike at this price is an absolute steal. HTH ...

Have some heat OP. I ordered one and they have confirmed to me the bike will be mostly assembled. All that you need to do is attach the pedals, saddle and turn round the handle bars. Apparently the pedals are very basic and they recommend these be upgraded. Not sure if they are saying that to make a few extra quid or that they are indeed very basic. Ordered new cycling clothing but on the hunt now for a good quality Cycling backback with Hydration unit.

Thanks for posting OP; would be a good starter road bike, but 61cm is out of stock - bit gutted, as this would be great for the odd commute, as my cross country isn't geared well enough for long road use! Typical, but heat added - looks like lots of stock for the other sizes.

I think Carrera frames are aluminum made ( or steel for lower end models) and Carrera is definitely a no match to a Cannondale. I would go for this bike for everyday use with a heavy duty D lock or a chain lock. like others said, the price for this bike is a steal. Then a full carbon one for pure riding ( join a local road bike club to ride with others for like 10m, 20m even 50 miles as a day trip. ). Bear in mind that full carbon is not cheap. I suggest a £1000 plus spending at least. You might have full carbon, Shimano 105 groupset ( higher specs are Ultegra, Di2 electronic)etc. You may find some aftermarket hand made full carbon wheels for a couple of hundreds pounds but it is totally up to you. the price range below £1000 is just too low for a proper brand new carbon bike. A guy is selling his Giant Propel Advanced 2 for £850 which i think is a fair deal. Just go to Ebay.co.uk and search Giant Propel.
Brand and model are important. check reviews and forums for a specific model. sometimes in the same weight range, due to aerodynamic design, one bike could be faster than others. I am into Giant Propel series, not familiar with specialized or other brands. So here is just some opinions from me. Have fun!
