Seen this down to £7 ish before but not this low. Probably because a lot of the ant species are in hibernation at the moment but can still order some on online if not wanting to wait a couple of months until they wake up.

Great price, but it's kind of a shame that ants (/ant eggs) aren't included. You're not exactly going to marvel at how a colony operates and constructs tunnels, with a paltry one or two ants collected from the garden!

Ant colonies can be long-lived. The queens can live for up to 30 years, and workers live from 1 to 3 years. Males, however, are more transitory, being quite short-lived and surviving for only a few weeks.[60] Ant queens are estimated to live 100 times as long as solitary insects of a similar size.

Told it is best to order a queen ant with several workers if you want to see how ants really behave.

Yeah this matches what I have researched.
I bought this item a week ago and 75 workers (from a popular auction site), they were active for first day getting used to layout, between feeding chamber and the nest itself but since then have become quite lethargic.
I've now ordered another nest and a queen with a few workers, hoping for a bit more activity.
'Ants Canada' youtube channel is helpful, if nothing but extremely enthusiastic about ants!

Unless there is a queen all the ants will die.

Does having two queens usually work out well for one of them?

Some species can have more that one queen, myrmica rubra (fire ant) for example can.
