Your not going to get a set that last a lifetime buddy.
It all depends how often you plan to use them.
If your using daily you will need to spend a bit more, especially with the HSS metal bits. Same goes with if your drilling anything harder than mild steel.
Ill asume your buying just to have incase you need them and using ocasionaly and in that case you can spend a lot less.
As a set, this dewalt one at screwfix is not bad and will last a while for general DIY. Link
If drilling metal apply a spot of cutting lubricant or even motor oil.
Add on the flat bits below for larger sized holes
If your buying seperate sets id go for these cobalt metal drills link
Id use them for metal and wood. Same applies with a spot of cutting compound when drilling metals.
Now thats just a budget recommendation for general DIY although would also be suitable for light trade use.
If your going to be tapping any holes you will need to get drills in tapping sizes as well.

You can if there all rubbish,a bad tool can ruin a job as any "Pro" will tell you.
Them ones that are on the Ideal World channel seem like magic not cheap though,that can have the tip put against a electric grinder then drill through steel etc with ease.
