However, buyer beware that this particular model doesn't have a "play & select" lever. In other words, you need to manually start and stop the flow of water, based on the drink (or your taste). Whilst this may seem like a trivial point to make, those that own a Dolce Gusto machine will know that the pods are labelled with a drink size guide, matching the levels on the "play & select" machines. Not so much of a big deal for a straight Americano, but quite important when it comes to the 2-pod drinks, such as the cappuccino or latte.

If you're not desperate for a machine, I'd keep on the look out for a deal on the Dolce Gusto Mini Me (made by both Krups and De'Longhi). Similar to the Piccolo, but it has the drink size selector. I've seen them for around the £33 mark (last time was at Tesco), but the cheapest at the moment seems to be £50 from Debenhams.

great if you can find cheap pod supplier otherwise expensive alternative to good coffee maker which cheaper in long run. Bit like buying a cheap printer only to find that cartridges are twice as expensive.

I bought this on Tuesday from Currys who also had it for £29.99

I've been impressed with it, you get a box of 4 different drinks with it, and also a £10 voucher to order pods online.

I was sceptical about the temperature of the drinks as I read some people say they are not very hot. The drinks have been excellent, better than what I thought.

Remember when buying this 3 years ago my wife saying what did you do that for we will never use 3 years in used daily great machine one of my top buys :smiley:

​I got this for Christmas and I'm really enjoying it, but I completely agree with everything you've said there.

Would be much easier to select the amount of water you need rather than judge it yourself, but it's a great intro.

JFC warehouse was pods for 3.29 many varieties.

They were reduced over Xmas and not just this model, i got the one below and discovered that theirs a lever to dispense the water which is a pain. I used my £10 voucher and used it towards 4 boxes of pods all of which require a certain level of water what i did was measure the correct amount in a jug pour it into the glass and then when making up the drinks eyeball it to the level i measured, its not a exact sience but the drinks ive made have been nice. I also have a Tassimo and Nespresso and the drinks this dispences are the best of the 3, i shall see how i get on whith this and then upgrade down the line. I cant believe that the Gusto has this lever way of dispensing water its very poor compared to the other machines.

I am newbie with coffee machines, can anyone tell if these pods come with milk? I would prefer adding fresh milk though

I picked one up last night. I already have a Tassimo and have to say the Latte's and Americano's made by Costa for the Tassimo are far better than what I've tried for the Dolce Gusto. One advantage is the pods are cheaper for the Dolce Gusto though. I'm not saying this isn't a good machine though but from what I've tried so far the Tassimo is better.

The standard coffee pods, such as the Americano and Grande Intenso, do not contain milk. You add your own, like you would any coffee. They are packed 16 to a box (larger boxes are available for some drinks).

The drinks that contain milk, such as the Latte or Cappuccino, have 2 pods - one with coffee and one with milk. These are still packed 16 to a box, but it means that you only get 8 drinks. I guess you could use the aforementioned coffee only pods and froth/heat your own milk?

I was having trouble gauging the timing with this machine but there's a free mobile app called Dolce Gusto Timer and it has the countdown for each of the respective drinks and since using that I have really enjoyed using my machine!

​Thank you for the explanation, I think I would invest in a bean to cup and use manually frothed fresh milk instead, not a fan if Uht milks so no point getting this
