I have a bigger collection that Netflix. I've also got terrible internet speeds so streaming can be an issue. Especially at peak times.
Much rather have local media as it's far more reliable and is all Uncompressed it's better quality too
Plus my server looks cool (that's a joke of course, but it does)

Fair enough, I just worry about those hard drives gaining intelligence.Less of them together the better.

Good to see bigger drives being launched at a sensible price. Somewhere for me to go when my next Red 4 fills up and would allow a total of 240TB (unformatted) in my server. Nice.

240TB?!
Getting server envy now! I make do with 12TB RAIDed to 8TB, but then I just delete stuff once I've watched it and don't have lossless music.

10TB now in one drive wow - decent price considering the premium you always pay on the high capacity when they are new

12TB drives are on the way too, this is a decent price for a 10TB version.

I see from a close look at the pic there's the ability to back up these drives to a usb stick. :smirk:

A 3TB drive is still approx £90. at £30/TB they aren't charging much of a premium for this. Great price if you need the storage.
That's crazy! How many movies do you have on that thing?! I have over 100 blu rays and a fair few TV shows ripped from blu rays on my server which only has 6TB storage and I have loads free!
To fill that you must have well over 5000 movies on there

Yes, there's some awesome deals on eBay for reprogrammed and upgraded 2TB sticks for around £15, must be a bargain! :stuck_out_tongue:

H.265 the **** out of your future library. Heck, convert some uncompressed rips too and you might save some pennies on storage and electricity costs.

i dont need to compress anything though...there's simply no need ill just need to upgrade a single drive every now and then (I've still got 27tb spare remember), but yes H265 is the way forward but in all honesty my PC aint the supercomputer id need to get tuff done....just as easy to leave it all as it is

Sounds like a good deal but personally I'd buy 3 x 5TB Toshiba Canivo drives, take them out of the enclosure and take the risk.
Compare this to WD' 10TB price and it then becomes a bargain. £541.68 here (+£4.99 delivery)

So if your internet is so poor how have you amassed such a collection? According to a quick google search netflix has about 6500 movies and 1600 Tv shows - do you have 6500 DVDs/BR and 1600 box sets in your storage cupboard?

Yup. My loft is like. HMV.

Had about 2500 DVD before I started using a server so ripped those first then started with Blurays and HDDVD unfortunately just kept going from there.
And I don't think Netflix have that collection all the time. They rotate the availability so not everything is available at the same time. But I could be wrong

Actually it's less that 4300 now (as of March 16) but again I think that it's entire catalogue and not all available at once.

That's a different type of hard drive, it's designed to store data rather than an every day read/write device hence Seagate label it as an archive drive, this is a more comparable drive:
Fantastic deal for a 10TB drive, I thought I was doing well getting a 10TB Ironwolf off Amazon Warehouse (I know it's a big risk but it's a backup drive and it has warranty)

Thanks for the info. CEX... (I can hear the grumble, rightly so) have some Ironwolfs in stock, bet they're hardly used given the age of the product and a 2 year warranty. £320.
That's a good recommendation, I've a friend who buys a lot of cheap parts off Cex and has no issue returning them where there's been a problem. I hadn't thought of checking for drives there so would do in the future if I want another one, they're handy as back up drives since they can store a lot of data but only use up a single slot.

I just received my order from CEX I ordered 5*10tb, they sent me the Ironwolf Pro 10TB as opposed to the standard version. These are normally £500+ for anyone looking for a bargain.
