These arrived this morning. Using extension sockets at both ends (although no surge protection) and very happy with the results! I had an old 2.4 Ghz wifi dongle on my desktop which maxed out at about 40mb/s (normally around 25-30). Tried two new 5ghz dongles with both being slower in 5ghz mode and in 2.4ghz were still slower than my old dongle. In the tests I've done this morning, getting a pretty solid 70mb/s download.

Out of stock now sadly. Heat added though, great deal!

it will have problems if the extension cable has surge protection built in.

Should be alright

was thinking of getting these for upstairs in the house where the wifi signal is particularly weak. But read somewhere that the electricity wiring in your house makes a huge difference with these plugs? with my house being pretty old I'm not sure what to do?

its a bit of a gamble, dependant upon fuse boards and if the adapters are crossing ring mains. At this price take a punt and see. Ive never had any issues.

Used loads of these 'types' of plugs in extension cables... never had a problem

Super. I'd already ordered before reading this so I will welcome loads of people saying "it is fine", "will work well etc". :stuck_out_tongue:

Will this work ok if plugged into an extension cable (plugged into a socket)?

A basic single extension cord? Should be fine.
A power bar (many sockets) - it's not recommended. Most of the time it will 'work' (give a connection) but the signal quality will take a hit which translates to lower speeds.
Sometimes it takes no hit at all - it depends on the design of the power bar. You can monitor the signal quality in the utility. You could do an A/B with and without the extension cable. If it's not taking a performance hit then use away.

It will be fine, ideally don't use a surge protected one but I have used them with success even in that scenario.

Is there any wi-fi on them? a lot of thin laptops these days and tablets don't have Ethernet cables in them. I'm trying to get signal in the kitchen, an wi-fi extender that I got is hit and miss with the wi-fi connection (more a miss though).

I don't think mine have surge protection so in with a fighting chance of decent performance.

Thanks. It would need to go into a 6 way extension. Decisions, decisions....

If you try it and it doesn't work you can very easily sell them on for more than what they cost under this current deal.

It depends on the strip - the wiring layout inside it and particularly the surge protection and filtering. The surge protection and filtering is what degrades the powerline signal so much.
Dumb (cheap) power strips with little or no surge protection actually tend to work fine.

Has anyone seen any cheap decent 1gbps powerline twin packs with power pass through ?
I have a pair of old 14mbps that have been fine till now but just can't handle HD content.

Great price but also looking for a passthrough also. Heads up for anyone thinking of plugging these into a power bar, they don't work so well.

In my experience they need to be plugged straight into the wall and if you're doing anything latency sensitive you should avoid having them plugged in next to anything else, particularly anything power hungry. If you're short on outlets then a unit with pass through is your best bet.

"Ethernet interface: One 10/100/1000 Mbps"
An adapter that isn't chopping its own leg off. Heat added!
This is based on a SISO chipset, therefore the performance is much closer to QCAs 600mbps products (which are also SISO) than it is to QCAs 1200mbps products (which are MIMO).
At this price it's a steal anyway.

it turns your electrical wiring into a computer network, allowing you to connect via ethernet to any socket in your house which has an adapter plugged in.

One end near your wireless router and other end anywhere else in the house. Possibly for smart TV or computer etc. Basically cable connection are always more reliable and faster than wireless.
