So...I've been looking for a good, not massive, 4K telly for my new PS Pro.

I missed out on the deal from Argos and saw today's deal at Tesco (£588) that had gone hot and was due to bite. One quick search later and found the same telly at Co-Op electrical with a 5 year guarantee and with 50 quid off = £549.99 (there is a £4.99 delivery charge on top)
Going through Topcashback gives 4% off that making it £528 +delivery once it's been paid. (4% cashback ends in 5 days)

If you don't want to go through TCB the code you need at the Co-Op checkout is CPTV50

That's £56 quid cheaper for me, than the Tesco deal and includes the 5 year guarantee, if that doesn't make this deal hot, I don't know what is

By the way, this deal is for the black one, the silver is 20 quid more and the larger 49" is £584.98 after cashback

And I'm also none the wiser whether it's 8 bit, 10 bit or 8+2 bit either, but reviews seem positive

here are the specs...

I got the tele just before black Friday from Argos for £500. Great set and fantastic with my xbox one s. Haven't notice one bit of lag or motion blur which is common in the Samsung on CoD, Battlefield or Fifa.

My xbox recognises it as a 10 bit tele and so does my sky q but think it's a 8 + 2.

You won't get a better tele without having to spend another £200 on top. That's a fact. especially when it comes to gaming. The fps are very low when put on the game setting though the tv.

It's a VA panel as well so has sharp contrasts but the one downfall is tge colour does start to fade when at a big angle but nothing major.

I've played about with the calibration setting but the setting out of the box are fantastic.

I have noticed I need to HDR on when watching ultra HD films on sky q. It does make the picture even better, but only really beneficial for movies. Even though the HDR setting is auto, for the ultra hd films on sky q it doesn't seem to want to put it on.

It does however automatically come on when watching ultra HD content on Amazon.

Maybe that's not a problem with the tele but more so the fact the sky q doesn't signal the movies as HDR required.

Any other questions about it, let me know. Hopefully can help.

49inch is a good price. 43inch tends to be too big for most bedrooms and too small for most lounges.

We currently have a 37" Panny plasma, which is nearing the end of it's days, and it's the right size for our lounge. Including the bezel it's pretty much 43" so this is perfect for us.
Agree though the 49" is a good price..

The only other slight negative I have is the is a case of DSE (dirty screen effect) when watching the footy, especially is the tvs live football setting.

This isn't so much a problem with the tv itself but more the fact it's an edge lit screen. DSE is found in pretty much every edge lit tele so can't be avoided.

It's not a major problem though.

Sony are usually the best TVs for gaming. Definitely going for a Sony for my next upgrade. However you need a bigger screen for 4k surely? 49 or higher if you can house it.

Got the 8077 in the man cave. I was scratching my head as to why my xbox 1 s was saying the tv wasn't compatible with 4k HDR 10 bit until I went digging and saw you have to switch on the 'enhanced HDMI' settings and use ports 2 and 3. Just watch out for that. Great little tele though.

Never bought anything from Co-Op electrical but they have a rare fridge that I'm after http://www.coopelectricalshop.co.uk/Liebherr-SBSEF7242-American-Fridge-Freezer-Stainless-Steel/id-LIE-AMF-SBSEF7242-SS

What are they like compared to other big retailers ?

JL rejected my attempt at a price match with coop electrical last week because the coop price involved using a code. Any attempt to price match this should fail for the same reason.

Others, however, have reported successful price matches using codes so folks might get lucky.

What makes that TV better? It's only an 8+2 bit tele the same as this.

If you truely want better you'd need to pay an extra £100 on top of that in the hope the Samsung KS7000 drops again.

Even then people have been saying the 7000 isn't actually that great, with motion blur being a big problem.

rtings state this is a 10 bit panel?

http://uk.rtings.com/tv/reviews/sony/x800d

"Our original test was showing an incorrect color depth of 8 bit due to some incorrect drivers on our system, but after some correction to our test apparatus, we tested again the color depth and we can confirm that the Sony X800D does in fact have an 10 bit panel."

(X800D is the US equivalent of the XD80)

29 Dec 16 #28
The 43" version uses a VA panel which is better for contrast/black levels than the IPS panel in the 49" version. IPS has better viewing angles on the other hand.

Input lag for gaming is around 34ms which is good, but not as good as the Samsung KS7000 22ms.

Also, Sony are due to release a new range of OLED models at CES in a few days. I doubt they'll be smaller than 55" though, as that's as small as the LG ones are at the moment, and they make the panels for Sony.
ws007
29 Dec 16 #30
look at the spec, its IPS
millward84
29 Dec 16 #31
Any decent 55 inch deals?
emiratesstadium
29 Dec 16 #32
And? IPS only favours some. VA in my eyes is a better screen personally.

Doesn't make the LG worth £100 more.

If you want 49" IPS then the Sony on this website is only £30 more.
ws007
29 Dec 16 #33
sorry they are both IPS, looking at so many tv spec at the moment it get`s confusing.

http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/308a635

http://www.displayspecifications.com/en/model/55d1483

only difference i can see is the LG is 120Hz and the sony is 60Hz.
ws007
29 Dec 16 #34
i`ve always preferred IPS, more colourful and you don`t have to be directly in front of the screen to get the best view.
emiratesstadium
29 Dec 16 #35
For me the viewing angle on this tele on drops slightly when at a huge angle, but I don't really sit at to much of an angle so suits me.

Also you get darker blacks and better contrasts with a VA. IPS screens also have trouble with colour bleeding, noticeable when watching a film when there is a black border on the top and bottom.

Obviously everyone is different but if you truely want a better screen then next one up from this is the KS7000 which is £200- £300 more which in my eyes isn't really worth it. Especially with all the reports of problems with it.

it does make you laugh at how many technologies, refresh rates, resolutions,HD,full HD, 4k, 4k ultra, 4k ultra premiums telly manufacturers come out with. part of me wishes it was like 30 years ago when it was a simpler time, can't the lot of them just set a flipping standard and stick to it? :-)

It's 8 bit + FRC, I have the 60" version. When Game Mode is enabled the response times are the best on the market for gaming. As far as I know only the 8000 and 9000 Sammy's are true 10 bit panels.
