Do hamsters last that long? :disappointed:

I bought this last year. The hamster chewed through the inner lining and got trapped between the two with his foot caught! We had to cut him free. Cute but very dangerous.

Oh dear. I guess they're rigerously tested for safety but anything can be dangerous if you look at it like that. I'm toying with the idea of buying my hamster a little wooden house for Christmas but am racking my brains asking myself if it's safe. It must be, otherwise it wouldn't be marketed for animals and I have to trust the well-known manufacturer that they've done appropriate safety testing. I don't know - it's very worrying that your hamster got trapped and had to be cut free but the safety instructions do say to remove it immediately if the animal damages the product. I know as well as anyone that you cannot be with a hamster 24/7 so you may well not have known about the damage. I wouldn't blame the makers OR yourselves. It sounds like one of those freak accidents where nobody is at fault, to me.

If they test them, and it's a big if, do they test them on hamsters?

Nah, not much meat on them, they don't often last beyond Boxing Day. We're going back to turkey this year.

About 2 to 2.5 years if you're lucky!

I know nothing about laws in Britain but surely it would have to be tested on a hamster before being put on the market. I like to assume so anyway. I've had hamsters for 18 years (yes I know - an adult with a hamster!!!) but thankfully none of mine have ever been injured, trapped etc on any of the things they've had, from cages to wheels to balls to toys, tunnels etc. Maybe that's just luck, or maybe its because things are safety tested - on hamsters.

Trading Here no one is kind
No trading in gold
Now that is bold!
Flamedeers are driving me insane
Trust me my eyes are in pain
Gold I will never gain
Those are the one which are main!
They say you need luck
