I cancelled SKY on Dec 16th. Went online to the chat forum and was offered 20% off variety pack. I asked for 75% straight out and it was approved - pays to ask directly.

for me there are 2 reasons, the first being how many PVRs people I know get through, paying £200 every few years as they get slow or break, this balances out the sky cost to me when on a good discount. Also regarding Kodi I don't mind paying for content. I class it the same as downloading films or music for free, the people creating the content should get paid for it otherwise eventually they just won't bother, then what will you watch for free.

When you cancel do you keep all of the equipment including sky box and any recordings? And then when you take out sky again do they just connect you back on their end and all of your equipment works as it did before?
Thanks

Keep the equipment and recordings, when we left we couldn't view the recordings though, when we reconnected they could be viewed again.

Not sure why people pay for Sky these days when there are so many cheap or free alternatives. FreeSat from Sky with a Humax PVR with HDD then either a Openbox with "free gift" or Cline or Kodi with Exodus sideload.

I was looking at getting one (mainly for 3pm kick offs) when I went to my mates house for a footy game only to sit down and for it to now work. Channel was scrambled or something. Apparently it happens quite often, and I can't be asked with unreliability like that. Whereas with Sky, despite paying extortionate prices for Sports and BT Sports and still not getting full coverage, it just works. You know what to expect and no shock surprises.

I think if you buy a good quality PVR with a decent HDD then they can last... maybe ive just been lucky but we have had the same Humax for 6yrs+ now and it hasn't skipped a beat.

Thanks for the reminder of this, had so many arguments with people on here who point blank refuse to believe that 60-75% or better Sky deals are available.
The key, folks, is to Actually Cancel and then see what happens, we waited until the 30 days were almost up and got (from memory) 60% off our package and £100 credit which was the best they were giving at that specific time (changes week to week).
These deals are simply not available unless you cancel. Yes btw I hear the Kodi etc comments, we do have an android box, but for about £15pm the faculty to record Sky Sports and know for sure sport can be watched instantly is worth it for us anyway.

Any advice on best way to get sky Q, or Sky 2TB box if you're already on full (except sport & phone/broadband) package?
rhinodaz to charlie brown
30 Dec 16#31
Yeah, make sure you're on a discounted package already. Then tell Sky that everybody seems to be getting Sky Q and you would like the same. They'll transfer you to the Sky Q department, they'll try and charge £99 per box so in my case it was going to be £198. I said no thanks as I knew other people on this forum had received two boxes for £60. They agreed to £60 no problem at all. I didn't end up getting It installed though as the engineer didn't turn up to fit it......twice! It took 13 weeks from paying the initial £60 for the install to me telling them where to stick their Sky Q and asking for my money back! I'm on a 60% off rolling tv package and I've given 30 days notice period because I'm after 75% off and £100 credit like loads on here!

Not sure why PVRs are even necessary, just change the way you watch TV.
I now watch everything on demand via BBC iPlayer or NowTV so no need to record, same channels I as what sky offer at a fraction of the cost. Can always get really cheap offers on the NowTV passes and you can cancel them and buy them as you want the content so only buy sports when good games are on and I get BT sport free with my broadband. All legal and reliable. Sky has had its day.

I dont get the chat option how are you getting it?

OK. I called them up and put in an early cancellation notice so it shows as a pending cancellation until the 12 month contract is up. I've just been on Sky chat and re negotiated 60% off and £50 credit but the clever thing is, I'm not tied in to any contract so I can cancel at any time! this is great as I can just give another cancellation notice after I take this out and I'll have £50 for free!

I have always done well with renewal deals (last year paid equivalent of £15.16 pm (£23.50 pm, plus £100 credit)). Just tried with a few advisors and whereas previously I get different offers from different advisors, they're all sticking to 50% discount and no credit. This is £444 per year instead of £182. That's half price, can't believe some people must be paying £888 per year. This is for Movies, Sports in HD, and whatever the full TV package is called these days (minus add-ons like MUTV, etc).
I'm wanting to know what deals people have been getting since the start of this year. Don't think I've ever paid 50% unless I've received credit as well.
Iv done it on live chat as phone up and was very rude keep my Internet but my cancellation notice is on for the 2nd of June how long should i wait before going back on live chat and what should I say thanks for the help

Tried Live Chat and calling them up. They insist this deal has expired and are now only offering 50% off Variety Pack with no credit, but also no minimum term. Told them I can't accept that offer when people received 75% off! Think I'll just leave... Haha. D;

Pretty much what I was told last night on chat, 50% is the most they're offering now. I asked for 75% and even mentioned the 60% on the TV but was told no. I even said Virgin were offering me a half price deal (they are), so I would need 75% off and they still didn't bite. I have until next Friday until I'm cut off but I think the TV will be going off for a bit cos if I go with Virgin it's on a new account so I'd have to wait for the box to turn up. My current box is tied to the existing account.
If I wait until I've been cut off how likely are Sky to honour 75% off if I ask?

I just went on chat and they offered me 33% off TV and 50% off BB, a measly £14 off my £70 bill. It was either that or they offered to cancel my TV there and then :disappointed:
I don't want them to touch the phone/bb but do you have to threaten to cancel the lot to get the best deal or cancelling the TV is enough to get a decent discount?

I've just been on with Sky retentions live chat and the best they could offer is 50% off our current package bringing it down to £43/month on a month by month rolling contract. They said they're not offering anything above that as of 1/1/17. I've tried to get a better deal three times in the past week with our cancellation coming into effect 17/1/17 with no joy.
However, after just reading through this thread, I checked the Sky Services via my Sky remote and there was a 60% offer and the sky number on screen. I rang through and was immediately offered the 60% off our current package bringing it down to £33.20/month on a month by month rolling contract.
That's cheaper than we've ever paid so we snapped it up. For reference we have the maximum package with HD, 3D, Sports, Movies etc.

Just a quick update- via online chat, asked for a deal to come back to Sky, TV only. Got as far as 60% off, but on a 12 mth new contract, using my old box. Asked if any further % discount or account credit available, but was told no. Even asked for a £40 credit after that reply, but again was told I was at the maximum, and nobody else (at Sky) could better that offer.
I'll wait a few days and try again..
