I paid 24.99 a week ago. Amazon won't credit my account with a fiver. They are happy to arrange a free DPD pick up and post me out a new one at £19.99. I'm lost?

God knows,that doesn't make sense,unless it's because they want to make sure it's new/sealed .

If they won't do it via Amazon Chat then after that there should be a survey where you could give them 1 star out of 5.
If you do that then you could escalate the matter and write an email message to explain that it is only sensible to credit the difference rather than waste further courier charges collecting and re-delivering the same thing again.
The escalation team usually have more common sense and are not limited by the system in the range of refunds that they could offer.
