Disagree completely. I have had mine for about 3 years and it is the best electric shaver I have bought. Charges in no time and gives a good shave. Easy to clean under the hot tap.Lasts for about a month on one charge. Just buy it and you will be pleased you did.

A few days ago yes, the 886 from Tesco for £40 but that offer just finished so not sure now and why I only stated the cons rather than saying avoid. That is the same shaver but with trimmer and one hour charge li-on battery as opposed to eight hours and a nimh with this one. You can get the 887 which is the same as the 886 but in blue from Boots etc for £50 currently, down from £64, but obviously that's a fair step up if that matters.
If your son has a separate trimmer already then the 899 makes much more sense, it is The one I was looking at originally for my lad until I realised what a bargain the 886 was. Obviously the actual shave will be identical between all of them

My son has this and he says it's a good shaver.

he is only 17 its really just to tidy his bum fluff and the odd longer curly hair on his chin
also to stop him leaving his face like he has been attacked by dozens of wasps after his attempt at wet shaving

Lol... you disagree with facts
As I said above, I didn't say avoid, I just stated the cons compared to others for those that miss that sort of thing. There's plenty of posts on here from people who've bought a 'bargain' and then been dismayed to find there's no trimmer as that is considered a fairly standard thing on a shaver.
Nimh batteries are a personal choice, the long charge times, shortish life and charge leak have put me off them if they can be avoided. They are purely a cost choice nowadays and this is a cut down, budget version of that range.

Go for it then  my choice was much the same but he's already had a cheapy and I considered this should last him well into proper beard territory so was worth the extra to me.

Good deal. Have some heat.
If you only want a dry shaver, I posted this last night.
So when you state,"no trimmer" and there is a trimmer, I think you must be getting a little confused.

No trimmer. Despite what it says on Amazon. Look at the bottom of the listing.

Thanks for posting grumpiness.
Mine arrived and I can confirm that it (AT899/06) does feature a flip-up trimmer.
A quick look at the Philips website indicates that the AT899/16 variant (which looks virtually identical from the front) doesn't appear to feature.Maybe the reviews have been consolidated for the two similar product variants.
