Costco.co.uk have the Panasonic TX-49DS500B 49 inch full HD Smart TV. This price is delivered.
Best price I can see on this TV it has some good reviews if you ignore the silly ones.
Costco has special daily deals between 5th and 16th December.

Would make a decent tv for people such as my parents, who still find the concept of more than 4 channels a bit weird.
And as long as the picture quality is decent enough (which it is on these, with reasonable colours and contrast and good enough motion control etc) then it's all you need really.
Don't bemoan no 4k on a 49" TV unless you plan on sitting 1m from it...

Would this be a good tv to watch mostly standard def programs on? Im not a gamer so not concerned about how games will play on it. What would be good for me? Thanks folks

Yes it would we are buying this as a second tv connected to sky for the kids to watch and is the best price tv at the min for this. What was important to us was the picture and also the sound as a lot of TVs this size have bad sound quality and you end up buying a soundbar according to reviews you don't need one with this tv.

Heat added (just seen the costco email and was going to post this. I'm so slow!). 5 year warranty included (and knowing Costco this will be as no quibble as you can get!). And the best thing? No worrying if it is a 10 bit panel or not :stuck_out_tongue:

Do costco give the 5 year warranty or do you have to apply to Panasonic to get it?

Costco give the 5 year warranty automatically. And their returns processes are literally the best in the business.
