Clearly written by someone who has never used Molton Brown products. :smirk:
Molton Brown products are nothing like anything sold in a poundshop.
They are a British Company producing quality products from quality ingredients which have never been tested on animals.
With Molton Brown it is a case of you get what you pay for, they use quality ingredients and this is evident in their products.
Yes, as an everyday product they are out of reach for many; including myself,
but i buy their gift sets for others, and occasionally treat myself to their Orange and Bergamont Hand Lotion; which i can wholeheartedly recommend.
Don't judge something you clearly know nothing about.

Check out Aldi's copy 89p, even Molton Brown's biggest super fan chose it in a blind test on TV, said the real stuff left sticky residue.

Well according to one of Molton browns most loyal customers, aldi's one is top and homemade one was better and Molton was last.
Always love the way people include "I've used these products before and they are not any different than £1 stuff" to justify there comments.
Over priced certainly but they are not the same, don't contain the same ingredients, don't leave you skin in the same condition and don't smell as nice.
If you don't like paying premium prices stick to your £1 wash and stop preaching to people who have more money than you ( no doubt people will reply with, more money than sense, you are a victim of advertising etc). I like these products the same way I like creed aftershave and nice clothes and suits and apple products the list goes on.
I am a victim though.

I know right. this stuff is £1 from poundland but premium because of the design of the bottle. they could literally sell you scented faeces.

The shower gel lasts 3 times longer than typical supermarket options. The scents are nice and lasts for ages; more akin to aftershave than shower gel. Yes it's still expensive but not as bad it looks. For around 10p a shower when on offer, I consider it fair value. Oudh Accord and Gold is the best IMO but rarely on offer.
If I hadn't picked up the QVC 3 pack offer 6 weeks ago, and only used a quarter of a bottle, I'd be all over this.

As much as I like MB products, they can't really be called British any more - they sold out to a Japanese chemical company about 10 years ago, though their products are still made here.

They also are responsible for the mass devastation of habitats and misplacement of indigenous people, due to the none ethically sourced palm oil they use. I would not buy from them on principle and their over pricing.

Spending over £20 on body wash isn't cool. I use own brand washing up liquid as a shower gel/shampoo/facewash which is about 20p a bottle. Lasts me ages too, even washing every two days.

Molton Brown products are extremely nice. I too used to think they were overpriced... but earlier this year I stayed at a hotel which had their products, and naturally filled my suitcase with all the samples lol. I have been using them since, and they are superb quality

I am endeavouring to become more and more ethical in my shopping, but it is no easy task.
I use Faith in Nature as my principle shampoo/conditioner/bath foam, and i get my perfumes from Pacifica.
Can you personally recommend any other products or suppliers?

For your information I have a stainless steel bottle which i fill from the tap.

erm because I have an opinion. just because it is not the same as yours. it is proving that there is no difference apart from the brand name and the source of the ingredients. if you are prepared to pay more for that, then more fool you. now if you gave me a bottle of grey goose vs smirnoff and asked me to tell you which is premium, i'd be able to give you the correct answer. or maybe a good bottle of wine vs some cheap stuff.

This is not about a scientific sample, it is about an anecdote that a alternative which is many times cheaper may be the better product. You are implying that we need a vastly bigger survey when in fact, all we need to do is to visit Aldi and try for ourselves because that is all that matters.

I was given a selection of Molton Brown products for my 16th Birthday and immediately became a customer - I'm now 30 and still continue to purchase them because I personally find their products to be of a fantastic quality, a little goes a long way which makes them extremely long-lasting, including the length of time the fragrance stays on your skin.
As with any company there is always going to be a considerable mark-up , and of course this extends to Molton Brown. I know people who work for the company and while I won't say how much it costs them to produce the average full-size bottle of body wash including packaging, I will say it shocked me - but that hasn't prevented me from being a customer (even with outlet prices and additional discount).

And clearly written with bias?
I was tempted to buy until I saw a recent programme which a buyer of this stuff had his contents switched but the bottle remained the same. Not surprisingly he liked the Molton brown which was just a poundshop liquid and he hates the poundshop contents which actually was Molton brown.
He was also tempted by a third brand which the producers made using an Internet receipt.
Think logically, this is £26, you aren't washing your hands with gold flakes.

Oh my stars...... Written with bias?.... What bias.....
I have no bias except for 40+ years of using toiletries which have included Molton Brown.
Your so hung up on the price... you can also buy a £1 perfume from a poundshop so would you also criticise those who spend £20+ on their favourite scent?
I clearly said that I cannot afford to buy Molton Brown products as my regular choice.
If I choose to 'occasionally' treat myself to a fancy hand lotion, or treat a friend to a fancy gift set what does it matter?
As for thinking logically as you put it, Im a 40 something year old woman who is too poorly to do most things other people take granted, so if i want to spend a few quid to make my hands smell nice, and feel soft i will!
For the record... my daily handwash is from Method and costs about £2.

£26 for a shower gel ... MB is the Apple of the body wash world.
Other products do pretty much the same thing for a fraction of the price, but the packaging isn't as smart.
Used to buy this stuff (esp black pepper body wash) but realised its really not worth the money - rather have 26 bottles of Natural Source stuff instead.

I'm sure that MB is great, but unfortunately everything was tested on animals. Perhaps not by that brand. It's hard to believe to any firms these days, for example The Body Shop is against animal testing (banned already by EU), but they use ingredients tested on animals for her mother brand which is loreal (the owner) http://www.loreal.com:smiley: I do not believe that Molton Brown has hand picked ingredients like herbs from British fields and forests. They obviously must have great marketing

I had no intentions of suggesting that they are one of the most ethically sound companies out there, I was merely trying to imply that they are of a 'different' quality to the items found in a poundshop.
Molton Brown were one of the early companies to stand up against animal testing.... but you are right and a bit of research does show that since the buyout.... the details of their policies get a little vague.
I don't find it surprising that so many products and their ingredients are tested on animals still... to be perfectly honest i don't think most consumers even pay it a second thought when they pick up a product, despite them being in 'theory' against animal testing and bad ethical practises.
I am increasingly trying to check the companies out who are behind the products I buy in order to improve my choices.
I think often people have no idea what goes on to produce the items they have in their homes, and indeed the chemicals that are being used. People trust the big brands and the big shops, whereas often the most ethical and most transparent companies are amongst the smaller ones.
The internet and people power is a great thing, and a lot of useful information is out there; on what is going into products..... and it does allow us to take some control over the impacts our choices have on the wider world.

Did you see the supershoppers episode about this brand, think it was on channel4 over christmas? They got a fan of molten brown to blind test the handwash vs a lidl/poundland one and he actually preferred the cheaper one and criticized the molten brown one. It was only one person and totally anecdotal rather than scientific but still an interesting watch
