Protected cells have a small additional circuit which protects against overdischarge, heat etc, though many modern torches have this built in and give a strobe or flash indication before ramping down the power or cutting out. The circuitry in protected cells means they are therefore a bit longer so sometimes don't fit. It's worth reading reviews I suppose, but with the S2/S3 both types of cell work fine as I recall.
Have ordered a s2 Astro luxe and C8 convoy will let you know how I get on sent this back minus batteries lol

Thanks for this tip.
I have a few Lenser torches including a T7 and an H7.2but ordered the T7M (which was linked rather than the LM-7) at £26.99. It arrived today and the beam is startlingly good and a huge improvement on the already amazing T7. I can't stop looking at the flawless wide beam which is like having a huge circle of daylight in front of me.

I've got two P7 torches. 1 was certainly purchased from Amazon of which is Original. The other purchased from somewhere, certainly a third party dealer, appears to be fake as the yellow triangle sticker is physically different. It's both a different colour yellow & size plus as mentioned here the star shape in the middle of the sticker touches the outer black line. I purchased this first. I bought the 2nd P7 as the batteries leaked on this, ruined the inside (was very difficult to remove the battery cap) & made a mess of the battery holder. I've had no paint issues with it tho' although it is a slightly different colour of black.

Oh, and another thing. These cells come in flat top and button top varieties. Check what your torch needs. I always get button tops though some people use flat tops then if button tops are needed they stick a small magnet on the positive terminal.

Oh mate - you wouldn't be disappointed. I have the Astrolux S2 and the S3, both are just brilliant. You can customise your firmware to allow for a range of modes, I have both of mine set to start on moonlight, then three more equally ramped settings before they hit 1400 lumens (obviously the 18650 S2 will have greater runtimes than the 14500 S3, but both are configured to have a genuine 1400 lumens high mode). The machining is first class and the lens and reflector are completely flawless. Both have illuminated tailcaps with a tiny blue LED in the switch cover which lights up when torch is off - very handy for finding it in the dark. Or, if you like, a twist of the tailcap locks out the circuit to leave it dark. They are superb torches for the £14-16 or so they cost with this code.
Best of luck.

This torch is quite heavy with 4 AA batteries. Bought the earlier version P14 for £60 back in 2009. Since then flashlight technology has moved on so much. Personally I would recommend a rechargeable 18650 battery torch. The Led Lenser is good for focussed beam, doesn't have a usable flood due to low lumens output. Recharging 4 x AA batteries gets a bit annoying.

Best comment by far from somebody who has done absolutely no research before posting.
There are many variants of Lenser torches which use different materials for different applications. They use the term 'professional' with some qualification as they are used by the police, armed forces and security; they rarely fail and so far, in my experience, Lenser sort out any problems without any questions. If you buy a £10 torch off eBay from China which looks like it has been designed for use by PS gamers, it may last forever or it may pack in in a couple or weeks or months - good luck getting it fixed or exchanged. My T7 is five years old and despite being used in all kinds of conditions on a near daily basis still looks almost new - it's rock solid. The lens technology on the more recent models is stunning and I haven't seen anything comparable elsewhere.
So, scoff if you like. I would rather pay more fore durability and reliability. For anybody interested, there is plenty of good information on the LED Lenser website though buy elsewhere as the prices are list:
I have three different sized led lenser torches, if you buy them while on offer I think they are an absolute bargain, bought this particular torch or should I say bought for me at Christmas I think it was £29.99 absolute bargain. had the other 2 torches for about 7 years never had any problems absolute quality. dropped numerous times over the years no problem. sorry I can't comment on other makes that have been posted on here as I have never had any cause to buy one but I have had a number of cheap ones one of which was a Halfords own brand which let me down with the switch going faulty. can't really comment on the waterproof bit but there is rubber seals either end of the torch and I've used in the rain no problems. I suppose it depends how wet you want to get the torch might be a problem if you get a bath with it.

It is totally true that Li-ion cells can provide massively more power than your standard AA/AAA or whatever. However, they do need a dedicated charger. I recommend the Xtar VC4 (about £20 off Amazon) which will intelligently charge anything from your AAA's up to 26650 Lithium cells. Laptop pulls are great if you have the time and dedication, but for those considering looking at Li-Ion's it is genuinely worthwhile having a read of this thread which explains safe use of Li-Ion's.
In my view, people should consider their budget split more or less equally (ish) into three parts. Okay, the torch bit will usually get the biggest amount. But make sure you get a decent charger like the VC4, not some cheap crap off eBay. If you don't need to charge Ni-MH's (they are your AA's etc) then you could get the Liitokala Lii-100 which is great value and very well regarded at just a few quid. Then there are your batteries. You should get a couple so that you're not caught short but unless you know what you're doing/looking for out of laptop battery pulls, you should be looking at spending about a fiver upwards per cell. That way you'd be getting something that is at least reliable, not likely to explode and not falsely advertised with ridiculously high outputs. These Samsung 18650 cells get a very good write up. But make sure you do your research about what you're wanting to buy. Loads of great threads/advice on Budgetlightforum - as I've said, just join and start asking. There are some incredible bargains to be had in the quality torch world which just show the likes of LED Lenser up. Get yourself a well regarded 18650 (or even a miniscule 18350 if you use the included shorty tube) torch such as the £25 Astrolux S1 which can knock out between 1400-1600 genuine lumens dependant on battery and you see that other torches are just toys. The brightest torch I own which is about the size of this LED Lenser has a turbo mode of 3200 genuine lumens and has the build quality/waterproofing etc to match.
The future's bright........

I was out on a trip with a friend who had the above led lenser model and was not impressed with the lumen output. My cheapy pocket man mentioned above with a pulled 18650 laptop cell outperformed it. I would say to anybody to go for 18650 torchs. Just check the flashlight subreddit and you'll see what sort of world is out there. The technology and variety of 18650 cell types and their usage cases now is amazing.

The switch on it was a bit clicky and not as smooth as others Led Lensers I had owned. I checked online and there's quite a few threads about it. The contacts in the battery compartment are of a poorer standard. But the easiest way to check is that the small yellow triangle symbol that is on the torches is different. There's a black line that goes out from the center towards the edge of the inner black triangle but it shouldn't touch it. On the fake ones it does. Also the serial number is in a slightly different location and font.
If in any doubt send a couple of photos of the serial number to Led Lensers customer services and they'll tell you.
Best not to buy of eBay (got a fake of them as well) or Amazon marketplace. Just my experience though.

Having the same torch I wondered the same. Where the P7 is limited in functionality over the T7M it also is less bright, producing just 200 lumens on it's most powerful setting. However it does have a battery life of 64hrs over 35hrs for the brighter 400 lumens. However I've noticed when the batteries start to run down the P7 does not produce much useful light output. So to me the T7M is a good deal especially as it is cheaper than what I paid for the P7 4 years ago!

I've bought enough bargainous Chinese specials from eBay and Amazon to know they are only a fraction as bright as they claim and tend to be very unreliable. Whilst you'll get poor examples from any manufacturer, I'd sooner get stuck in a dark place with a Maglite or LED Lenser and with the LED Lenser you should get a 5 year warranty.
A work colleague paid over £50 for a Ledlenser torch last year and it failed within six months.
Me, personally? I'd rather pay under £4.00 and replace it twice a year than pay even the discount price of this deal in the hope it outlasts the cheaper option.
It's a lot of money to replace if you lose it too!

Feit electric torches from Costco - I've posted a couple of deals previously.
There's a 2 pack of 750 lumen torches with Duracell batteries (3X C cell) think thy are £15.99 + vat.
And there's a 1000 lumen torch again with Duracell batteries (3X D cell) again the price is somewhere around £15.99. The 1000 lumen has recently been replaced by a waterproof version which is a few £ dearer.
These torch lumen claims are genuine (check the torch forums) the light from both on flood is incredible, on full distance mode the led gives a square shaped light which some folk don't like but unless you're lighting up a spot on a hill half a mile away you don't tend to use the full distance mode often.
I've had a few of these over the last 3 years, all still going strong - also bought as gifts for family and they're all still working fine.
There are a couple of Amazon sellers who obviously resell the Costco ones, but dearer but still not bad value.

Its not that simple. Its like saying why buy a Ford over a Kia or Audi. They all do the same thing, its just how much do you want to pay for the name, and the level of detail / finish.
There are smaller, brighter torches but they will not last as long, similarly there are cheaper, brighter torches but they wont have the build quality.
Aldi /Lidl do good torches but its pot luck when they are on sale. Look at Olight/Fenix/Nitecore/Surefire but there are a lot of cheap Chinese copies on the likes of Ebay / bang good that claim to be a good brand name but are also a lot of good quality clones that perform as well as the branded ones at much cheaper prices.

Haven't voted. This torch looks significantly old generation compared to the newer stuff on the market. I've never been terribly enamoured with LED Lenser stuff. The zoom in my mind is a gimmick - give me proper IPX8 waterproofing and impact resistance over a silly zoom any day. This torch can only cope with light splashes yet it's touted at emergency services use?? Hmm. Torch tech had moved on massively in the last few years. Check out budgetlightforum for more modern and, in my opinion, better value torches. I tend to use Olight torches which knock spots off this but there are plenty of options out there which are far brighter, more efficient, with better features and a better tint and which are more robust than this, bearing in mind the zoom presents an inherent weakness in the water and impact resistance, or lack of. Much better alternatives out there.

If in any doubt send a couple of photos of the serial number to Led Lensers customer services and they'll tell you.
Best not to buy of eBay (got a fake of them as well) or Amazon marketplace. Just my experience though.
As for mine, I sent a photo of it to LED LENSER who confirmed it was fake and I got my money back.
So, I'd better not share the link?
This is a good torch. Yes you can get more powerful (fenix and nitecore are worth looking at). The zoom is genuinely useful.
Overall this is a good deal.Howver unless you want a physically bigger torch the link someone posted earlier;

for the T7M is a better deal.

Quoted lumens between 3000 - 6000 depending which seller you purchase from, so pinch of salt required I guess.
Several brightness settings + Strobe + Morse Code
Uses 3 x AAA batteries
AFAIK, this is the very same "NAVY SEAL FLASHLIGHT" that was scamvertised/spamvertised all over t'internet with the slogan "SO BRIGHT IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL” and offering them at 75% off their normal price of $200.
I have two of these, bought direct from China at a cost of around £3.30 from different sellers and and for the price paid, I can quite honestly say they p!55 over any torch I've ever had.
Yes, it's shipped form the far east and takes a couple of weeks to arrive, but no hurry, no worry!
For those that don't want to deal with Ali-Express, I've just discovered a seller on Amazon UK selling these for £3.75 delivered
I still cannot understand how such an item can be shipped from probably the other side of the world for under £4.00, when internal UK mail for such an item would be at least £2.85.
Contrary to the above views, I love the adjustable beam and use it all the time.
Seriously? On a 'deal' website?
I got myself a 'no-name' torch for £7 Amazon/Ebay/Aliexpress. It serves me 3 years now. It is waterproof. It has rechargeable battery which lasts several hours.
The light? Yes! Daylight bright up to 10m, bright 25m, foxes at nigh visible up to 100m.
I don't get you guys spending too much because it's a "deal" .

Torches
There are smaller, brighter torches but they will not last as long, similarly there are cheaper, brighter torches but they wont have the build quality.
Aldi /Lidl do good torches but its pot luck when they are on sale. Look at Olight/Fenix/Nitecore/Surefire but there are a lot of cheap Chinese copies on the likes of Ebay / bang good that claim to be a good brand name but are also a lot of good quality clones that perform as well as the branded ones at much cheaper prices.
Buy a Good Chinese one, with rechargeable 18650 cell/s, with latest more powerful led technology ....
