Homebase seem to be using the wrong picture on their website. It shows a 6 ton logo on the side which is for the 6 inch vice not the 4 inch.

That is likely to be correct. An Acme thread is very efficient. Just look at the ratbag screw jack that a car is supplied with. A "proper" vice can easily exert 3 metric tons.
