Great price for a 256GB SSD Laptop with Windows 10 Professional and a full HD screen and dual band WIFI (2.4GHz and 5GHz). Not quite an ultrabook but very close for less than half the price. Also has a 4 cell battery as most at this price range have a 3 cell that only last 3-4 hours. Does not have an optical drive like all ultrabooks.
Yes, I know, it’s a Core i3 but this is NOT a gaming laptop so has all the performance most people need. Yes, it’s Windows 10 which I think is great personally but that will not stop people moaning about it. Just remember, Apple and Google do exactly the same thing with telemetry and no one complains every time a phone or tablet deal comes up. And before the naysayers say it, yes, it is the same thing! /end rant.

Bit of an odd spec isn't it - an i3 CPU but a SSD and Win 10 Pro. I think personally, for this price, it really needs to be an i5.

Depends on what you use it for. Most people would prefer the responsiveness of a SSD rather than extra processing power that is usually not required. A SSD also makes Windows updates far faster.

Totally agree. In everyday use I really can't tell the difference between using the i3 & i5 BUT a SSD is noticeable.
But an i5 for that price would be nice :smiley:

14" with a weight of 1.67KG so very similar to the Elitebook 840 and looks similar too.
But like the difference between a Thinkpad T and a Thinkpad L, this has a plastic case unlike the Elitebook which is metal. Still it has the very convenient service trapdoor which is nice. Looks like the M.2 slot is 2280 which is a lot better than the first Elitebook 840 G1 which only took 2242.
Well, this price for a poorly made consumer laptop maybe, but this is not the HP 250 G5 and while a Probook is not an Elitebook it is a business grade.
Besides, i3-6100U vs i5-6200U is not much. Passmark gives (single threaded in brackets):
i3-6100U = 3,427 (1,320)
i5-6200u= 3,912 (1,497)
On laptops, i3, i5, and i7 often means very little as most are dual core with HT (i3's don't have turbo, i7's have a bit more cache).

as this has no optical drive, would there be space for an additional large capacity HDD?
I think it's a pretty good price in a close to ultrabook laptop range. I would even consider one for myself because I need portability. In terms of the CPU, i3 6100u is pretty capable and you won't notice much of a difference. It will run most applications equally well, on the other hand, though, as someone said, try HDD and you will notice a massive difference straight away.

Looks great for a lightweight business-class laptop. I believe the 6th gen i3 has similar Passmark performance to the 5th gen i5, so plenty fast enough

Yeah for me it comes down to the overall experience. Decent weight, good battery, Full HD, fairly large Solid State Drive, Dual band WIFI and a 6th Gen Core i3. The other thing is it looks good... Not the most important thing but why have a monolithic black slab of plastic if you can get a nice sleek looking laptop. Anyone who has witnessed the large frequent Windows 10 updates will be thankful that they spent the extra and went with a SSD.

That's HP 250 is a great deal! Still prefer this one but that is an absolute bargain for anyone wanting a laptop.
