This deal is not for everyone as you need to have homecare cover with British Gas. This is not available online.
British Gas engineers are offering £50 discount on hives installed while they are at your property to carry out a repair or service. The normal "in day" price for a hive installed by a British Gas engineers is £199, so £149 now. If you have a faulty control- timer/thermostat the normal "in day" price is £149 so £99 now. In my experience the engineers will be happy to fit you one at the lower price even if your timer/thermostat is not faulty.
As mentioned i know this deal is not for everyone, but if you do have homecare it's the cheapest way to get yourself a hive.

I get really p*ssed off when people calls these plumbers, engineers, they are not. It's like calling a nurse, a doctor./:-) Happy Xmas all, an annoyed engineer.

have some heat.... awesome product at great price
No they don't get commission if you have a new boiler installed. But they get £15 if they arrange and appointment for you to have a quote for a new boiler.
Hope this helps.

I don't know but I've had two different British gas engineers out in the past couple of weeks both of them pushed the hive until I told them I have the salus it500.
There could be something in it for them.

You're wrong I'm afraid, they don't get commission if you have a new boiler installed, but they get £15 if they book an appointment for you to have a quote for a new boiler, (if you have a new boiler installed or not)

Hmmm... had British Gas replace my programmable thermostat only 6 months ago - at the time I was told Hive would have been £149. Trouble is the one they've put there it's more complicated than the last one. SWMBO said she'd rather go back to a simple dial. Is the Hive particularly idiot proof?

Extremely idiot proof. You can download the app and use the demo to see how to use it, thermostat is also very simple

Engineers get £10 hive sale, same with other sales like filters on other article. Most will only advise if necessary, there are no targets for sales, always going to be a few pushy ones unfortunately

This job advert looks like a fairly low salary (for the industry) with bonus incentives. Guess you can dress it up all you like, i.e. the way they get their commission for boilers by booking in an appointment for a trained sales person. They are pushed towards sales and those with a conscience would probably not thrive in a sales pressured environment.
BG eng in London is on about 40k with unlimited OT, there aren't many I know that were bothered about sales. I was a contractor for them BTW

20min install max. Google and do it yourself.
Take photos of the connections before incase you have to revert back and book an actual engineer. But it's 4 wires on a combi, most people will do it.

Got my hive v1 on the screwefix deal a while back. £54.99, fitted in 20 mins. I'm no plumber or engineer. Just Google and take a photo of the wiring - mine was similar. One off one on.

great product. I bought mine off amazon on black friday with installation. the control unit was sent out to me and inside that was a code to enter on the hive website for the installation booking. BG came out as agreed and installed it no probs but instead of using the control bit I had sent by Amazon they installed a full kit so I've got a spare controller bit

Some terrible stories on Trustpilot about 'engineers' screwing up people's boilers installing this stuff. Personally, I wouldn't aid the extinguishing of a fire at British Gas; it is a terrible company to deal with.

How does support work on these things? I bought the BG Remote Heating system a few years ago, and it got migrated to the Hive software at no cost, but I have no idea what happens when I have a problem and need help

Hive Support is amazing. I don't think it's the best smart thermostat on the market (yet!) and new features come online very very slowly, but the support team really are excellent: they will not leave you in the lurch.

Cold for me - have homecare, mentioned my thermostat was unreliable while having the service and he even said "you want to get a Hive" and despite the prompts didn't offer one at any price so picked up the Wickes deal...

You need a British gas man in your house, you could always call them to report an intermittent problem with your current timer/thermostat.

Anyone able to answer this question about Hive.
If this is fitted for the elderly, is it easy to use? Can they still go to the Boiler to switch on ad-hoc and program it via the boiler controls, or is everything done via WiFi devices?

I've had Hive for a year, two in fact as it's a dual zone house. It works great, the thermostat is easy to use manually and the app is very straightforward. However, I wish I had gone for the Nest. Hive can be programmed for on/off and temperature however a Nest learns and gets to know how long your house takes to get to temperature taking into account the outside temperature. That would be useful for me. Also Hive has a product ideas forum asking for input from users but any ideas stay 'under consideration' for ever. They are really slow to implement any changes and my fear is they will bring out a Hive 3 which will require users to pay more to get a more useful system.

Fantastic bit of kit. I have saved so much money already by using only the boost function rather than timed heating - I wouldn't be surprised if it pays for itself within eighteen months. All the functions are accessed via a smartphone or tablet (e.g. scheduling the heating) but some, like temperature change and heating boost can be done via the wall unit too. I bought some smart lights too to go with it - now also controlled via my smartphone. If you don't have a smartphone or tablet then this is not the product for you.

Like others have said. BG engineers get £15 if somebody gets a quote for a boiler. I'm not sure about hive though. In my experience, I haven't seen anyone pushing for boiler quotes. I work for BG.

Hive have already had two fairly significant screw-ups in their system, and it's a case of when rather than if remote home control systems like this get hacked by bad people. A similar system has already been hacked by security consultants who were able to lock out control from the owner, perfect for a ransomware style attack.

Yep, I have a homecare agreement and I logged an issue with my thermostat and the engineer who came out for that offered the £100 off and did the Hive install there and then.
