This is around 50% off (£499.99) what it retails for and would be in my basket if it was 4K compatible.
No, it's not a sofa.
It's currently OOS but available to order. Amazon don't take payment until despatch, so there's nothing to lose.

To be honest I think you may be better off waiting until around March onwards when you start seeing the current crop of 7.1 channel £500 receivers in the likes of Richer Sounds reduced down to anything between £250-299, that is what I always do, right on the cusp of the latest receivers by manufacturers coming out they reduce the prices to stock shift.

I was about to order this until I read the manual and realised the 2nd HDMI output is simply a clone of the first one. It's not a 'zone 2 HDMI' output which would allow different sources to be shown in each HDMI output so it's doing nothing that a £15 HDMI splitter wouldn't do. Also, as with many (older) dual zone AMPs the zone 2 can only play from analogue sources just like my ageing Denon AVR 2307.
Also noticed it was for Prime members only (not a problem as you can get a 1 month trial) and also seems to have gone up to €399 now.

Bought one of these when they were £149 last year - eventually returned it for a Sony 750 as it was to be used in a closed space and it got incredibly hot. Do bear in mind though that the price of this is £100 dearer than it was then!
EDIT - looking back I bought the AVR171 - don't know if the 'S' model is any different.

I have the non S model but it runs cool when ventilated as HK advise, it must have rather efficent amps! I can't tell the difference between this and the AVR171 as neither have WiFi
First of all there isn't much difference between the 06 and newer 07 series. So don't worry about that. But there is a difference between the 1506 and 1606. The 1606 supports Atmos and DTS-X. If you are not worried about those then that price is a bargain!
p.s. it is almost impossible to edit anything here using your mobile especially with nested quotes!

if you want future proof hdr and 4k you will need hdmi 2.0b with hdcp 2.2

Yeah, not having hdcp 2.2 is a deal breaker for me.

\ive had mine a couple of years, if it does pass through 4k ive not worked out how to do it (skyq certainly doesnt), it will stream audio from a nas - the interface isnt great though. Its quite a quiet amp and wont be giving you any high volume, mines running some acoustic energy speakers and doesnt stress them in the slightest. But i only paid £250 from RS a couple of years back as i needed a quick replacement, its not worth the $500 they claim but is capable it its current pricepoint.

Thanks, what is the music audio quality like?
I have a Sonos setup, while very easy to use it's not hifi, I worry the NAS interface will be unusable.

Well that certainly gives me a decision to make. I better gear up for the conversation with the other half  cheers for that, I totally missed it.
I'd better leave that question for the audiophiles

The reviews says this supports 4k pass through. How is that different to the 4k Marantz posted on here? Sorry for asking a newbie question.

Have a big birthday coming up and could probably get her indoors to swing for this as a pressie.
Question is would it be worth upgrading from my Sony STR-DH750.
Using with pair of KEF IQ5's, KEF IQ60 Centre, and a couple of KEF IQ10's as surrounds.
Any advice appreciated.

Go on....Basically assumimg you have a normal living room (even a very large one) then pair this with something like the Tannoy hts 101xp. Then wonder why you ever needed more than 50 watts per channel

Will this stream from a NAS or external HDD?

I'm not sure mate, I can't see anything regarding it. Although I'd expect it to be a given with a networked receiver. My current setup most certainly does.

They gave this a 8/10 when reviewed at £499. I just don't think I dare even bring the conversation up with the other half so close to Christmas

Check out the Marantz 1605/1607 series as they are the slimmest out there. Full 4k HDMI 2.0 compliance with Dolby Atmos and DTS-X i.e. fully future proof (until next week anyway) Unfortunately quite a bit more expensive.
