It will make a good pencil sharpener!! I have a similar one bought from Argos, same power. I can easily stop the grinding wheels from turning if I apply too much pressure but it's ok for pencil sharpening and other light work and will take rough edges off a chisel before fine honing properly.

I have to disagree - I have the equivalent from screwfix and it sharpens and grinds everything I have put its way perfectly' chisels' screwdrivers' lawnmower blade' shears' - the trick is to let the wheels do the work - if you apply to much pressure and the wheels stop you are doing it wrong ' smart ' guy - hate to tell a man his business though' but! :wink:

Hardly any pressure on mine at all will stop the wheels and I was taught to use a grinder properly. The ones we use at work are far superior but that's workshop compared to diy home. The one I have is a Challenge. You can stop it easily.

As above, these are hopelessly underpowered but adequate for very light tasks.
I'd save up for something better if it was going to get any serious use.
Heat still added though as this is still a bargain.

Have to agree with above comments - also bought a similar powered version - its useless on anything but the lightest work (which I could have done easily with a file). Have used a decent one in a professional workshop and they are very different. In my opinion its not worth the money (and loss of space on the bench)...... but as this is HUKD and we are voting on price, it does look the cheapest of this type of grinder......

Agree with above comments saying these are underpowered. I bought a very similar grinder at Aldi (one of their Special Buys a couple of years ago) and it's not much cop. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's useless, but it's very limited.

Just remember to allow it to spin up to speed whilst you're to the side of it. If it does explode you don't want to be in front of it when it goes, there's some horrific pics I've been shown during safety courses. Same with angle grinders, they're both handy if respected though.

Safety courses groan............ hard hats when working on a roof , googles to drill a hole....high viz jacket while driving a fork lift... you get the idea

Health and Safety is often over used to the point of idiocy but common sense is needed, but having had drill bits snap off and hit my goggles I know I'd rather look uncool but with 2 eyes rather than look cool with 1 eye and an eye patch.
