Hi guys
Really hope you can help me. I've got a Toshiba satellite pro, had it for the last 6 years never let me down. Although, Ive had a complete hard drive failure, the laptop won't even boot up now without it offering to keep restarting but each time in vain as I never get past the black screen.
Dad's Christmas present sorted right there

Had one in my 2.5 year old laptop for the last couple of months. The boot time is incredible, it used to be a pain but now it's ready to use in less than 10 seconds. Used Macrium Reflect free to clone my old HDD, I've novice level IT skills.
Check eBay for prices if you can wait for a delivery from HK, I paid £45

Do your research before committing, quite a few reports of doa and others dying within a few months. You get what you pay for.

i don't see the problem, 2 dead on arrival sdds out of 30, which get replaced under warranty and no problems with the other working 28, i presume they do test them at stages, damaged in shipping? i don't know but why would any one send faulty sdds for them only to be replaced with working ones? when you buy enough of anything, you'll get DOAs, i'll continue to purchase these SSDs, i have no issues with them. (clearly referring to the working 28)

Never heard of this brand, by if the memory type is Hynix that's really good wonder what the controller is like?

Wouldn't be worried as Hynix is the memory provider for IBM Servers, the controller is made by them too.
Quotes from their site:
"Hynix has competitive advantage by developing the world's first 16nm NAND.
NAND+Controller+DRAM: Total solution based on our own technology and manufacturing capability."

Checked their background and it looks solid! : Your text here
I didn't take my mid 2012 MacBook Pro above 8GB RAM, and coupled with an SSD I'm sure you will be very happy with the performance at that level. When I sold my MBP, I left the SSD in and returned the RAM back to 4GB and it was hard to notice any difference to when it had 8GB RAM. Still booted in a couple of seconds, and woke up instantly etc.

I have this SSD and I have to say that its doing its job perfectly. No problems whatsoever with this and definitely recommended. This was my speed test when I got it:
May be slightly faster than this since I was downloading a program at that time for some reason.

i thought i'd jump in here, the price of these keeps rising, as for them not being a "brand name", my business purchases these direct from china for our pc builds, i have found these to be just as good as others, with a DOA failure rate to date of 2 drives out of 30. i would recommend these SSDs

Your MacBook Pro would have shipped with at least Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion) and therefore after installing a new HDD or SSD, simply power on your Mac and press CMD+ALT+R together when you hear the start up chime.
Your Mac will then connect to the internet and download the OS it was shipped with, and then you can upgrade via the App Store to the newest OS.
There is an app called Trim Enabler that is a good way to enable trim for the best reliability with your new SSD

You don't need an adapter, just do a Time Machine backup of your old system. I think you'll need to boot from your system DVD and then select "Restore from Time Machine" to restore your system. You will want to enable Trim as well. I would Google all of this before you start and as always have a reliable tested backup!

Is your MBP mid 2012 a retina model? If it is it won't fit.

As above, Im definitely going for a SSD, and one with a large memory. I was thinking of something along the lines of this?
