It works, these machines just don't give chips like a fryer.
I found potato wedges work best.

I have just sent mine back I found it awful, it couldn't even cook home made chips properly! I didn't try it on anything else because that put me off immediately, think I'll buy the tefal actifry instead, just my experience of this machine

Damn, I got the Lidl one specifically because you can put both the basket and the bowl in the dishwasher but this appears to be the same but cheaper.
