Price drop, IMAGING100 discount code & £100 Canon cash back has taken this to the lowest price it's ever been for UK stock. It's now within £50 within the greyest of grey importer's pricing, and has a 'proper' 2 year warranty through a UK company.
Yes the 6D Mk II is probably 6 months away, but for those with an existing collection of Canon glass looking to make the move to full frame - this is a bargain.
Ps, I shoot with a 5D Mk IV & 6D - so feel free to ask any questions.

How are you finding your 5D Mk IV? How much did you pay for it?

£2,500 through Panamoz for body only - probably one of the only importers I've had all round good experiences with. Wonderful piece of kit, although the 6D still runs it very close in low light. Only thing to be careful of, is it calls out the weaker glass in the bag - 135mm F2 looks utterly brilliant on it, whereas the 24-105 L looks rather poor.

Get a mirrorless if you don't really need the few remaining benefits of DSLR. But anyway, still seems like a good deal.

Yeah thats issue with mirrorless it's not a 100% yet. There are always nights when where I need a DSLR over my Sony.

Great price you got it for. Thanks got the 6D because of your post. I have a Canon 70-200mm USM ii 2.8 laying around not being used because I had enough of using it on my Sony A7 manually. Hopefully it will be better suited on this.

Really depend on what you do. If u shoot video, I think A7iiS wins hands down. However, if you want to shoot event in low light, the autofocus on DSLR still the best choice

I agree with you. filming in low light at a party is amazing. Try and take photos in the low light at the same party a nightmare. This is not helped with sony disabling auto focus lights on their flashguns. Yes it has the little orange light on the camera but it doesn't cut it. DSLR shooters always have a grin on their faces in these scenarios.

But the autofocus speed is getting closer and closer. Check out the new Olympus E-M1 Mark II, the auto-focus has big improvements and a lot faster frame rate than any DSLR to date. Let's hope Sony, Panasonic / Fujiflim can come out something even better in 2017!

Camera's aside, there's also the fact that Canon has the best glass by a country mile - the camera is only as good as the lens it's attached to...

There are quite a lot good lens in mirrorless body as well. Not to mention you are also allowed to use CanoNikon, Leica, etc lens on the mirrorless body now (just the focus speed is not as good as native only).

What would you advise for a newcomer who wants to do Photos & Video?
Panasonic GH4R?

GH4 is a good choice, especially it can records 4k video internally. Sony A6000/6300/6500, Olympus, Fujiflim all also not bad, check out dpreview

I used to do a lot of club photography and the ability to add a battery grip and an extra battery meant I could take well over 1000 shots in a weekend. From what I've seen about most mirrorless cameras is that they are very power hungry and require charging often. I don't think mirrorless is there yet for picture quality and versatility.

Picture quality not there yet?? Do you know Nikon is using the same sensor as A7Rii that made by Sony?
I do agree the battery life is certainly shorter in mirrorless, however, u also have batteries grip in mirrorless cameras also, and is smaller size so maybe you can carry more to fix the issue. Also another thing that DSLR can't do is, you can charge the battery with the body with any USB. Unless you only allow to carry one battery, else i dont' think is really an issue.
If you are still not convince, there are lots of comparisons for photos between A7ii and Nikon D810

What are your thoughts for a canon m5? Om looking to get one but not sure about which lens to get. I would only be takigs pics of family and cars and maybe the odd sightseeing now and then. I would like something with a bit of zoom..

if you're starting from scratch (no lenses) and want a compact camera with a few lens options, I'd be more swayed towards the Fuji X-T10. Better value for money and more lens options than the M5 (unless you're looking to add a bulky adapter to use EF lenses)

I totally agree with what you are saying, just to add that by watching yt reviews on m5, it seems that Canon finally decide to become a strong player in the mirrorless market...
dslr level autofocus even on adapted L glass, very good battery life, fast evf that doesn't black out when shooting... I assume that more efm lenses are on the way, and maybe within couple of years Canon's csc's will be in the same league with Sony/Fuji

One advantage of DSLR is the lens market. Much more choice and often cheaper than mirrorless alternatives. Also, there's good secondhand availability.

How does this compare to canon 7d mark 2? or is there something better in the £1000 region? Looking to get into photography. currently have the sony nex-5t, with stock lens. But pictures aren't that great especially in low light, washed out or over saturated skin tones etc. Plus the lens are extortionate. Mainly be using for portraits and streetscape building etc. Want something that is also easy to use and shoots fast, the Sony menu system is pretty convoluted.

7D Mk II has a few more bells & whistles, but is a crop sensor (meaning the 6D is better for low light & wide angles). Best advice I'd give is to look at what lenses you'd be looking to buy in the future, and look at outlay as a whole. I compared Canon 6D & Nikon D610 - whilst the Nikon was cheaper (at the time) the lenses of my choice were more expensive, and not as good quality.

Ive read the 50mm lens would be best for portraits and depth of field effect. Looking at he Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 lens. What other lens would be recommended for portraits/general holiday pictures.
Thanks

17 Dec 16#24
for general holiday snaps, I'd probably recommend the 35mm f2 IS. 35mm is the closest focal range to the human eye (making it well suited to general snaps), and the added benefit of image stabilisation makes it a nice all round lens. the 85mm 1.8 is also a nice portrait lens (personally I'd take the 35mm & 85mm over the 50mm - but that's personal choice)

1.8 is too shallow depth of field for portraiture I find. I use the Canon 40mm lens. Really good for street photography too as its not very big so much more discreet.
I was going to buy the 6D at this price but the code has expired :disappointed:

Just looked up the price of the 35mm. Its a lot more money than the 40mm I use, and the reviews are mixed too. I picked my 40mm up from Argos on ebay for £100. Best money i've ever spent on a lens.
ashleythurman
26 Dec 16#27
50mm 1.8 is the best bang for buck portrait wise, and 85mm 1.2 II if the budget stretches to it. 35mm is a great holiday lens, the 35mm F2 with image stabilisation, whereas the 35mm 1.4 II is a stunning lens if the budget stretches to it.
skdotcom
31 Dec 16#28
Yeah, but the 50mm is not exactly a quality piece of kit (plasticky and poor focusing), and the 35mm is much more expensive. The 40mm is where its at IMHO. I haven't used my 50mm since buying my 40mm two years ago.
And 85mm for portraits? Ok if outside, but not for studio shots unless you have a very large room.
The IMAGING100 code is now active again, but out of stock for home delivery, and limited stores with availability. I'm now trying to get John Lewis to price match.
Looking for the best deal on a 5D mk III, any kicking about? Was hoping since the release of the IV they'd go down. Looking to supplement my 6d and can't justify a IV
