Posted previously at £29.99 so a further £5 off has built in speakers and comes in a carry case. It is cheap and plays records. In red, teal or brown.
Good reviews! out of 271 reviews 4+stars out of 5 and 93% would recommend to a friend. They cant all be lying

This is the worst piece of kit I have ever seen!
I had one of these for xmas, well I was like a 46 year old kid when I opened the box . . .I set it up in the kitchen to listen to my albums whilst cooking dinner, but was sent into spoilt bratt tantrum mode when it found it that useless it started skipping my tracks and the music quality / volume was terrible . . . So I thought lets plug it in to my speakers only to find the sound still terrible.
I checked a few LP's but still the same and it also made me see sick as the turntable was making the LP's go up and down like the ocean.
What do you expect I hear you say??? Well I expect something that plays albums and has sound I can hear!
Rant over as I've taken it back and ordered an ION . . . . . If that is bad too then I'll have to upset the wife and get the Denon out

Right, after taking out the stylus on this I noticed how rubbish it was, I also noticed that the turntable wasn't spinning flat . . . So maybe I got a dodgy one?
Yes the build quality is rubbish on them but so are all the other portable turntables.
I returned mine and got a full refund and ordered the ION from Wilko's which I picked up today and I must say how impressed I am with it, not only is the build quality much better, but the arm is much gentler and although the stylus looks the same it is a lot better made (and straight), also the turntable spins flat and doesn't make me feel seasick (it also has a felt clip pad on there so not to scratch the other side of your vinyl.
I'm not saying the ION is brilliant, but it is miles better than the Bush.
Only wanted something to play vinyl on in the kitchen (and not my best vinyl either), but this also allows me to copy the vinyl to my computer . . . So win win . . . . (I'll brace myself for all the haters and the people that have thousands to spend on a deck)

I don't think so. I guess some people care about their old vinyls more than others.

My original point would still stand if they did care about them. You're different and that's fair enough.

I have a load of old 7 and 12" singles that I wanted to hear again (mainly for some obscure b sides), but once I digitised them I couldn't care less about whether or not the vinyl was "ruined" - a moot point though, as one play through would hardly be enough to ruin them.

I don't see how its that hard to understand. Am I missing something?
jonboyuk
29 Dec 16 #43
So you'd either
1. Go out and buy records, to digitise them? (Unlikely)
2. Take your old collection and digitise it? Understandable, but if they're old do you really want to ruin them?

Just trying to understand the logic!

Come on guys, lighten up, I was thinking what a great idea for the remaining 20/30 or so records I have, little nostalgia trip. I have my technics etc. for my cds and couldn't really justify the expense of a quality record player just for these few I have dotted around the house. I'm pretty sure serious collectors will already have they're wonderful denon bits of kit
Kulaak to archers1
28 Dec 16 #38
I think most of us started out with something similar when we were young & our parents bought us that record player, so yea it does have a use. Sadly tho' new technology was not around then & we had fun, disappointment was a moons throw away. However, now we are all used to higher quality material these days so just don't expect to much. It's not gonna convert anyone or bring back a vinyl ressurection. Happy holidays

Well not in my wife's case, she is playing all of her old records from the attic and loving it! We are not all HI-Fi buffs and are happy with the nostalic tinny sound from the 60's..

I got the one from sainsbury in the sale for £20,reduced from £50 apparently, wouldn't ever of payed that though. The one i have as bluetooth, which worked ok, i have yet to get the vinyl from the loft.

Obviously this is not for hi-fi buffs with new and valuable vinyl, but it's a great little player for all of the old records stored in the attic
Kulaak to jazzyman
28 Dec 16 #33
Obviously not, however the joy of using this will soon wear off when you realize that the CD or even mp3 version of the same record sounds far,far superior (of which you'll probably have).

If you value your vinyl collection listen, this means for any cheap and nasty record player!https://youtu.be/_WzrK6CIZrY
.
I won't go into all pro's and cons, have a listen to the YouTube guy's advice! But if it doesn't have at least a counter weight then I wouldn't risk my vinyl collection!

28 Dec 16 2 #28
My god "vinyl collectors" are a dull bunch! Let's see who can name the most obscure record player and bore the most people with half witted claims.

"Not as good as my technics tx435"
"Simply out performed by the demon dn567-a"
"The rotary flange cheap knock off and can't compete with a modern flux capacitor"
Etc etc etc!

Heat from me! Record dweebs- bore off!!

Agreed, if you care about your vinyls, don't buy a cheap player. The weight of the stylus will damage the plastic over time (according to What Hi-fi)
Kulaak to jonboyuk
28 Dec 16 #20
And the friction of the arm (it may be low but probably not low enough), which would also send all kinds of unwanted resonances (vibration) down the arm to the stylus.

The stylus on this weighs nothing.

drewbles82
28 Dec 16 1 #18
why would anyone wanna destroy their vinyl with this

I recommend the Audio technica Lp120. Picked mine up for £200, amazing sound and zero damage to my records. You have to remember when buying a player, how long do you want your vinyl to last, are you buying it purely for the retro look and fashion trend of having a record player or do you actually want to get one to listen to the amazing quality you get with vinyl. If its the quality then you need a quality player, these cheap plastic, lightweight, portables should never be used. Sadly stuff doesn't come cheap, if you want the better sound, you gotta pay the higher price. I can't imagine spending £20 on new vinyl for it to be ruined on those esp if its rare vinyl.

I got one of these for Xmas really! for £24.99 they are fine in fact better than expected. I picked up some vinyls from the charity shop for 50p each and I'm very happy with the sound that it has produced for such little money. A bargain if you ask me, if your looking for some nostalgia

I've seen these in Audio - T, Doug Brady & a few other high end audiophile shops so I reckon we must be missing a thing or two :smirk:
Oh & Sainsbury's right next to the vinyl collection they now do!

Yes you're right, the Ion ones have been around for some time and I shouldn't have suggested they're the same as all the other cheap 'brands' that have recently appeared selling this cheapo decks - but the Ion still have fairly basic mechanisms which might be good enough to transfer albums to a PC but they're still pretty basic in performance and not much of an upgrade from this Bush (it might even use the same mechanism as so many decks do)

28 Dec 16 #15
The ION ones have been around for a long while - they make tape ones too. They're not much to do with the vinyl revival - more offering a way to convert your old vinyl and tapes to mp3 - that's the reason I bought my 2 ION devices at least, as I needed a solution to get my 12" records preserved.

I've just bought my first record player, I knew nothing when I started looking into them. Essentially you need to be spending £200+ on a Audio Technics, Rega or PRO-JECT turntable, or get an old and heavy turntable. Apparently everything else is inadequate at playing records and most likely damage them over time, these little portable things with inbuilt speakers being the worst offenders.

youre an idiot if you think you can get a decent sounding turntable for this price, you deserve what you got....

28 Dec 16 #13
Prepare to be disapointed with the Ion, they all use much the same mechanisms (ie cheap and crap) - you already know this so you might as well get your old Denon out right now and avoid further tantrums

These cheapo decks are really just cashing in on the vinyl revival that's sweeping the supermarkets and Amazon (I was amazed to see Sainsbury's selling 12" records, especially the Sex Pistols 'Never mind the **** here's the Sex Pistols' album for all to see!

But a cheap deck will more likely ruin your cherished vinyl

this looks very similar to the one Sainsburys do. was given it for Christmas. dug out a box of old 45s and it tends to cut out before the end . fun but I wouldn't recommend. the 12" one played OK . did stick and skip on some , but I guess some of the record's hadn't been touched for thirty year's

I've just picked up a Teac TN-300 for £250. It has a built-in pre amp and I am currently using it with a Marshall Woburn speaker. It sounds pretty good. Just another one to consider for anyone looking to get back into vinyl with a decent entry level turntable.
