This is an article on Wi-Fi Extenders (what this product is) and Powerline Adaptors and how to improve your signal. Each have their own advantages and disadvantages. If you're just looking for something cheap to boost your signal, then the BT Wi-FI Range Extender will do the job
This is Amazon's price tracker, but it hasn't been this cheap before.

They do what they say but overall success depends on how far away you are from it, how far it is from the original Wi-Fi source, the layout of the building, construction of the building etc...
It does boost your signal though. You can also try repositioning your router to see if you get improvements by having it central in the house, or closer to where you use Wi-Fi the most.

Bought this yesterday from currys very easy to set up but it reduced my broadband speed from 32kps to 17kps so I returned today for a refund

You might need to start looking at powerline adapters instead. They don't reduce your bandwidth limit. This one should work for you: TP-LINK TL-PA4010KIT AV600 Powerline Adapter

Basically, that's what they do. That's how they work. Take from the strong signal area & give to the weak signal areas.
You might see an improvement in some areas but deterioration in others.
As mentioned earlier, Powerline is probably the way to go
would this be best of both? Is this what im hoping it is? a homeplug with a wifi repeater built in?

Yes, that's what it is. It will use your existing power line to transmit the signal to the powerline adapter and then broadcast it as a Wi-Fi signal. The Wi-Fi SSID (Network Name) will be different from your existing router so you will have two Wi-Fi networks in your house. It's not really an issue and you may be able to change it to match your existing SSID but I'm not sure. Perhaps someone else can confirm this?

I think it's called 'cloning' your existing signal. I tried and gave up after 2-3 days trying (not with this extender)

Please stop spreading misinformation because you clearly have no idea what you are talking about.
They don't 'take' from anywhere, that's not possible. They act as a relay between a device and a router and given good placement extend the range of a wireless network.

I have BT's new Smart Hub, it's utter ****. Wifi just drops randomly multiple times a day.
Been forced to use my old HH3. Is it any good with the wifi extender?

Contact BT as I think they must have a batch of crap one's. My homehub 6 has been playing up for a while, so BT are sending me a new one tomorrow.

I got offered the Essential WiFi Range Extender 300 as an alternative at the same price too. Anybody got any views/experience of the different models? It doesn't have as many flashy lights and RRP is not as high suggesting it isn't as good of a deal, but more interested in speed/coverage/reliability.

yeah I'm keen to know the difference I got the same email saying they are shipping the essential WiFi extender.
