The way it works is that you put the disc in, and it downloads the episodes (or at least it does on Xbox)

Yes. The additional episodes can also be downloaded by the next recipient. You're safe to pass on once finished.

There's only one season with episode 5 being released just this month. I hope they make another as I really enjoyed it.

The disc itself has episode 1. You have to download episodes 2-5, but they are all accessed via the disc. Episodes 1-5 = one season, if that makes sense.
