Excellent price for 2 3D movies but countless returns of this steel with dents and spine slash and Zavvi are a complete nightmare.

Really ? I've never had a single dent in mine and I've ordered loads.
Had one issue with We were soldiers though but that was the disk not the steelbook.

I order a lot of steelbooks and Zavvi are the worst company ever for sending items back. No phone line/ you have to pay to return a damaged item and beg them for a refund. I have kept damaged steels because it's so much hassle to get a replacement. I hate the fact you have to email them back and forth.

Again very strange...I've actually never had to send them back, and they've always sent duplicates at no extra cost.

Yes, really I am an avid steelbook collector and can safely say although buying from Zavvi (if I must) about 95% of the time there is damage (to some degree) and you have to deal with rude staff who ignore your concerns. I have had my bank manually investigate and charge back on a few occasions where Zavvi refused to refund damaged items. This is common knowledge but like I say still a good price for 2 3D movies just don't expect it in good condition as more commonly I find the cheaper I get something the worse condition it is in.. (conveniently for them).

I have just had two damaged steels one with big dent in the top right corner and one with a long dent along the side of the spine front facing and a few other small indentations on front. Just to confirm my previous experience with zavvi they have NEVER offered to send a duplicate at no extra cost without first returning the item, and this is after long waits for email responses where they will reply offering a small discount to the item, even if you already asked for a replacement, eventually they will offer to replace the item if you send photos of the damage and only after they have received the item back to their warehouse, which takes upto 10 days for them to process.
This has been my experience today and also in the past and like the other reviewer said often its easier just to not bother, this time I did because I had two in the same order and was a little annoyed. Also I would point out that they get you to say it was damaged in transit when neither of my boxes looked damaged it was obviously in that condition when they shipped it out to me.
Having said all the above, 9 times out of ten their steels are in perfect condition and are no problems but when they are it is definitely a hassle to sort out. The only thing strange is that you say you have never had to return a damaged item and they send out duplicates at zero cost, this i find very strange and unlikely based on my experience with them.
