I really don't think it matters in respect to long term. There isn't a great deal to separate them, so personally I would just go with the one that you find most pleasing aesthetically. I would probably lean towards Asus due to them having a better BIOS, but Gigabyte are fine in that regard. There is an argument for stepping up to Z270 (Kaby Lake) if your budget can stretch to it, and if you think you will utilise the extra motherboard features. Otherwise, either of these boards will last you a long time.

Hi there,
would you be able to help me, I'm currently in the process of building a gaming pc. Which one out of the these three would you think would be the best for a long term system.
I've just asked a question but no one seems to be answering. Please can someone help?

True, if you can wait it's worth to do so, just to see what happens. I suspect it will be a while before Ryzen is actually available, even the high end version. They've said Q1, but that could be March.
There's great deals to be had on Skylake now, so if you need a system, just go for it. Given the incremental improvements in CPU tech, you'll be good for years with a 6700k. Heck, people are still running Sandy Bridge without too much of an issue!

As mentioned, there is no point waiting for Ryzen if you're looking for a budget gaming build. Ryzen is releasing an 8-core CPU first, which rumour has will be around the £700-800 mark. Now that is actually a good price IF it seriously competes with Intel's £1000 6900k, but we don't really know for sure how much of a run for its money it's going to give it. Regardless, it won't be aimed at the average consumer, it's for enthusiasts and those that actually NEED an 8-core CPU. Most people don't, but plenty will WANT it all the same. Ryzen is also not going to impact the price of lower Intel chips (not initially anyway), because they are aimed at a different market. It MAY impact the 6900k price, but only if it hits it hard on performance.
On the lower tier affordable side of things however, Ryzen is not going to be going down that road for a good 6 months or so yet. Kaby Lake is going to be full fat price on release, and offer negligible performance over Skylake, which makes it a daft purchase unless you simply MUST be on the bleeding edge of tech. The deals on Skylake now and for the foreseeable future make it the ideal path for anyone on a budget and with more sense than money. Everyone else can waste theirs on the latest tech, but they won't be getting good value for performance. Of course, if you can wait 6 months, see what low tier Ryzen brings to the table, otherwise just go with Skylake, you'll be set.

But at least we will then be able to see some 3rd party performance stats not AMD cherry picked ones.
And a better decision whether to wait 6 months or jump on skylake/z170.

Is it still worth buying something like this for a new build, most likely to be used with an i7 6700k?

Yes. It's a great mobo and will take the 6700k as it's lga1151 slot

best to wait for Amd's new chip isn't it?

Ryzen doesn't have a budget chip though early on. The first one shown is a high end 8 core and designed to take on Intel's highest end £1000 octacore. It'll probably be another 6 months before AMD get anything out in volume in the more mainstream quads.
But don't expect Ryzen's quads to be any faster than Skylake/Kaby Lake. It will be strong competition for Intel and they will lower their prices which is great but it won't happen for quite some time yet.

I'm still on an Intel 2500K XD. I was looking to upgrade to a Kabylake CPU next year sometime. Or I can wait to see how well AMD's new ones fair.

Thing is you can wait forever. I been up to my head with work, built a cracking gaming pc for the lad and fancy one myself. Thought pah wait Im too busy. Well the prices today are the same as August other than newer gf cards.

Indeed, tweaked Skylake with higher power draw to increase the clocks and not much else, but this is what happens when you have zero completion to keep you on your toes.

Same as Skylake, negligible improvement from a company who (until Ryzen) has no competition. Really don't understand why people went from Haswell to Skylake.

Kabylake hasn't got very good feedback though from what I read.

In about 2-3 weeks.
EDIT: Yes it's still 1151 - Kaby Lake.

It's been this price for quite a while now, I bought one about a month ago! Haven't even used it yet.
But great deal, HOT.

Thank you. Ye I'm after one but going to wait for January sales. Not in a rush but want to upgrade mobo, RAM and CPU as that's what is letting my gtx 1070 down.
