Those of you who wants to get this deal better be quick - "This product is only available between November 17, up to and including December 15, 2016."

Im pretty clueless about these things. Could I ask?
What are the charges for making voice calls & texts?
Can I transfer my existing 3 mobile number?

This is a 'data sim' - designed really for tablets (i.e. with cellular connection). Although it may be possible to dial out and text it will be very expensive. If you want a sim for a phone, this probably isn't for you.
But, yes, you could transfer your existing 3 number. Though it's a bit of a faff. You would need to first port it out to a different network (e.g. EE, O2 etc.) and then port it back in to 3 on your new sim.

is there a time limit when you have to start the SIM going? or does it begin as soon as you order it from Amazon?
ie. can I buy now, and start in 6 months time - and then enjoy 2years from that point?

None of the networks offer great service these days, but I agree, Three is pretty much the best there is - they do use offshore call centres but the staff are polite and knowledgeable, not human 'script-robots'.

I swapped to 3 on the circa £9 deal a few weeks ago. dreadful signal at home. Switched on WiFi calling (Supervoice). No difference. Tech support said my phone was incompatible with Supervoice, it isnt. To be fair they offered to release me from my contract at no cost. I asked for their Black Box, signal booster, but was advised no longer available. EE same signal issue, but took one if their signal boosters, worked brilliantly. No network is perfect, you take your shot depending on where your priority is. Home, Work or travelling.

Any one used a data SIM with Freedompop service. As it looks like they do a standalone app as well. For calls and texts.
That's only 3G not 4G. The 4G is signifacantly faster but more expensive. The 3G is still usable but your best doing a bit more research.

Any dongles for these sims have an actual network socket ?

Biggest annoyance with MiFi boxes is they sleep if no data is used for a while and you have to press a button to wake them - so they are unsuitable as a WiFi replacement. Anyone know which MiFis can be set to never sleep?

I've had the one supplied by Three, the 4G Huawei unit and never had a problem with it going into sleep mode. I used it straight from the box, never changing any settings.

Yes, that works. Slower than when in the UK, but it works.

These work fine in Australia and New Zealand where you can get a signal.

My Alcatel Y800 4g Mifi never goes to sleep nor did my Huawei 3g that I had previously.
Avoid the EE Osprey 2 from what I've heard it likes to sleep a lot.

Why not buy a cheap smartphone instead of a mifi? I ve bought an o2 "like new" Lg leon for 30 quid and it works great.

where does it say your activate before date on the sim? I received one and can't seem to find it printed on it?

I'm sorry. I received few sim cards recently, and the one with the date on it was o2 payg sim card.

14 Dec 16#27
that's no problem! You had me worried there :-) as far as I know (and am hoping) 3 don't have an expiry on activating sims so I'm taking advantage of this to purchase 2 and will be activating the second a year or so from now hopefully!

This is wildly pessimistic! On any 3 Broadband SIM I have had in the past you create a "MyThree" account for it (which you need anyway as it is where remaining data is reported!) and top this up with some cash credit (minimum £5). Calls and SMS get taken out of this credit at 321 PAYG rates..

Can anyone please answer for a fact whether the data on this SIM can be used tethered in a smartphone?
The answers on the Amazon Q&A are mixed, to say the least, running between "impossible" to "of course, no problem".
Three's site seems to state very clearly (to me) that they don't allow PAYG customers to tether.
Thanks.

Voted hot.
My musing reading other posts:
This looks like a new product with RRP of £30 with a current saving of £1.60 - I guess the available up to 15th December thing may be back up to RRP - will see on Friday I guess.
I have just registered my current data sim to have a look and it states I'm on the "PayAsYouGo MobileBroadband" tariff. I can add a text or data bundle but I can't see a call one or just normal credit for the 321 rates. This sim from Amazon may be different and you may be able to change your tariff without losing the data.
Don't need a data sim atm as my other still has 10GB of 'credit' on it. Only used 2GB in three months so far but I'm a light user I guess? Think I paid about £23 for 12GB valid for one year - so this is very hot for me and if I was near zero credit would buy it. Took my current one to France etc and worked great as a tether for WiFi when out and about.

Geedamg,
Was that tethering a laptop etc. via your phone?
I guess what I'm really asking is it possible to use an old phone to tether, avoiding having to buy a dongle or mifi?
(I do have an EE locked dongle, which "seems" easy enough to unlock, but would hate be landed with a £28.40 junk bit of plastic if I hit any snags.)
P.S. I do know the phone's tetherable, because I tested it by inserting my present Three 321 SIM, and got an internet connection on my comp without problem. They even sent me an update for my network settings.

Sorry for late reply, didn't see it. Yes - tethering laptops and other phones via it. So you don't need a mifi etc. Also an old phone is a lot more useful as a tool. We use our in car to connect to bluetooth radio so goes through car speakers that gives us a DAB radio via app (uses about 1MB a minute) plus sat nav as well as a 4G hotspot for all passengers. Sucks the battery but if you have a good enough charger in there it runs great.

Yes it can. I do - see two replies up for how I use it. See reply #30 for why you may not be able to make phone calls on it - basically when I registered my sim it looks like I can only add text or data bundles.

Many thanks for that reply based on your real-life experiences, much appreciated. As I said above, had little faith in the mixed replies to the same query on Amazon, especially since all the most positive ones seemed to come from the seller.
Took a chance and ordered just before the deadline anyhow.

Just to update anyone still looking at this thread... They don't allow tethering outside the UK on this sim. I'm in Spain and started to get a block message after connecting my PC, feathering my phones seems to be ok. For anyone technical, they blocking based on the clients user agent.

thanks for the heads up. Have you tried spoofing user agent on laptop browser and see if that bypasses it or are they doing some browser fingerprinting TLL packet counting mojo too?

Best I can currently find is this 3 12 GB data SIM, good for 12 months, for £23.95

OK but not GREAT like the 24 GB was :disappointed:
Hopefully that'll be back soon?
