Santa got the wee dude Skylanders Imaginators for Christmas and now he wants some figures and crystals for it.
Argos are currently doing "Purchase 3 selected Skylanders Imaginators figures and receive the cheapest figure free."
This also applies to the Crystals, which allows the user to create their own character using the different elements in the game.
Crystals start at £8.99 and Figures are from £13.99
*Note that Argos have titled the figures "SuperChargers", which is incorrect, as this was last years game.

How do these work? Why do you need loads of crystals?

You don't need anything beyond the starter pack to finish the game, but I guarantee if you have kids, they'll want tonnes of the crystals as it limits the number of characters you can create

Like other Skylanders games, the game is made up of different lands that have different elements (earth, fire, water etc). You would then use the characters based on their elements, to give them extra bonuses and unlock secret areas.
In this version of Skylanders, they allow the user to create their own characters and save them to the Crystals. The Crystals then have different elements.

Thanks. My son also got this off Santa and I was trying to figure out what crystals to get with which figures. I feel like an old, old man :disappointed:

I believe the ones in ASDA are Superchargers @ 2 for 10, not Imaginators. They also have the same deal on Disney Infinity figures.

Hey folks, got all the other ones for my daughter, but not this one yet. Whats the main idea this time round? Is there a good "cut down" set to buy to open everything?
EG:
Skylanders: Bought one of each Element to unlock each gate (actually, I ended up going completely obsessive and getting them all!)
Giants: Bought a Giant of each element
Swap Force: Bought a swappy guy of each element (end looked up to make sure I got one of each power type too)
Trap Team: Bought a Trap Master of each element AND a trap of each element (ouch)
Superchargers: Bought each vehicle type (woo, only 3!)
Anyway, is it like these where I could just get a cut down set for her to unlock most of the content, or is it completely different?
Thanks!

The core concepts this time are Sensei's and Creation Crystals. Both are elementally aligned, with each Sensei also having a battle class. The main game doesn't have elemental zones or zones aligned to battle classes, but there is a kind of open world area that does have elemental zones. Those areas give you extra pieces for your Imaginators, but you also find those throughout the game (it's supposed to be random). A creation crystal can be used to create your own Imaginator, using base parts or those you find playing the game However, as it's one character per crystal, kids are soon asking for more crystals, especially as choosing a battle class for your imaginator is a one time only affair and impacts on it's design options.

I like how you think! Great idea if you have the time

once you've picked the battle class you can't change it! (however there is a work around but you need a 3ds console and the original skylanders game to do it)
