Did a grand job for me last time we had bad snow, got me out my estate when everyone else was stuck. However you do need to stop and take them off when you get on a gritted road or else they will shred and I would have thought affect braking. At this price highly recommended.

For the first time ever I'm getting winter tyres fitted to the wife's car tomorrow. She's not great at driving in the snow/ice! I know, our winters have been very mild just lately but by the law of averages we must be due a bad one soon so wanted to be ready. The existing Summer tyres will be going in the garage until Spring. These things are OK but I can't imagine my wife getting on with them at all what with having to remove them and all...
Remember to check your car insurance as some insurers class changing to winter tyres as a modification, daft as it may seem

Has anyone come across these at this price in any other store? If you have a car that dances in the snow these are a must, but as shopaholic8 says you have to take them off when you are out of deep snow as they shred - I know this to my cost, which is why I am looking to replace. Heat added.

Thanks for the heads up, genuinely wouldn't have given it a second thought! She's with General Accident (Aviva's 'pared down, online only' arm!) so got onto their help section.
How do I change my policy to show I have winter tyres?
At General Accident, we’ll let you change your tyres to winter tyres as long as the new tyres are the same profile and size as the tyres that are currently fitted to your car
For example if you have steel wheels currently fitted, then you can change the tyres to winter tyres, and you don't need to tell us about this change.
But on our insurance policy you can't change the wheel to an alloy wheel. If you wish to do this you will need to cancel your General Accident policy and take out insurance elsewhere.
Ridiculous wording as her car is fitted with alloy wheels as standard! Contacted them and they have agreed the wording is silly and we don't need to tell them about the winter tyres. IMO it should REDUCE the price of the cover during the Winter months!

It shouldn't reduce the price, since non-winter tyres are suited for non-winter conditions also, which most people drive around with all year round. However I do agree that your policy should be cheaper than someone that doesn't switch.
