Years ago it wouldn't have been a recall - the advice would have been to change the plug.

Use it near the cooker hood and put the fan on..
As for mushy guess you're putting it on high for too long? I use one weekly for chilli, stew and cottage pie..

Looks like one we had that turned out to be a very slow cooker. We've had 2 or 3 over the years and all are great left on overnight or a day at work. However one we had about a year back from Aldi but looks very similar to this took forever and didn't cook in a workday.

its also marked as £10 in my local branch, they've probably not got around to changing the shelf label in OPs branch.
