Sony Cybershot HX80 now £199.99 at Argos - £100 off. Well specc'd wee 30x optical superzoom camera. Slightly newer version of HX90 which sells for about £250, the only main difference is no GPS.

One of the better compact superzoom cameras on the market....
Still let down by the small sensor but the lens is excellent.....Zeiss optics always are & the images produced by the sensor are good allowing for the constraints caused by it's size........
At this price it's a good deal......even if it is Argos !!

main difference is surely no manual focus option?
still lots of places mention you can manual focus but not sure on it... no control ring though?

In Full Specs on Sony website:
HX90 - Focus Mode Single-shot AF, Continuous AF, DMF, Manual Focus
However, you may be right and Sony just did a cut-n-paste on their spec sheet. I guess if you need Manual Focus and/or GPS then the HX90 would be worth the extra 50 quid.

I have the HX20v and agree the picture quality is excellent for the sensor size, it's still a big limitation. I would go for a RX100 if you can stretch to it but the zoom ain't as long though. Horses for courses I guess...

Is this better than the DSLR deals being posted?

Demands entirely on what you want from a camera. They have completely different roles.

Can you stick a DSLR with a 30x zoom lens in your pocket ??
Can you take photographs with great low grain images in poor light with the creative control of aperture. shutter speed, focus, depth of field, high speed accurate constant focus with the compact ??
They are completely different.......with the exception that both take photographs......so it's like comparing a DSLR of a Compact with a mobile phone
