Great phone. I have had mine six months and I am a heavy user. It is not slow at all. My wife has a 6S and my SE is practically the same but smaller screen.

To counter my SE is perfect. No issues, very fast, bright white display. Bought it over the 7 and 7 plus (came from a 6s plus).
1. for the size as I prefer a phone to fit my pocket
2. the cash savings
3. Performs just as well as the 7 in most areas (better on battery as well)
Probably worth factory reseting your phone and setting up from scratch as your "backup/profile" maybe corrupt/buggy.
Deal heated.

Three sims don't lock. Use that first then your Normal SIM card.
Ordered, but thanks for info on SimFree. I too thought this meant unlocked. And it seems it does mean unlocked if you buy SimFree from John Lewis, but not if you buy it SimFree from Argos.
Hmm...not surprising that it's a bit confusing. So I wonder if they will price match their SimFree with this SimFree...
Thanks for the link though...great price, have been looking for a bargain on the 64gb version...

JL will not price-match unless the Argos phone is absolutely unlocked like the JL ones. I tried an NKU price-match on the 6s when CPW were doing a deal on it, and JL were very clear on the distinction between fully unlocked and the CPW-style unlocked. (But you never know...)

25 Nov 161#48
JLewis phones are fully unlocked. I have one. 3 sims WILL lock an Argos phone and there are no guarantees that 3 can unlock it afterwards. 3 only guarantees no lock on the iPhones it supplies directly. Went through all of this recently when I bought my phone. You might get lucky or you might end up with a perma-locked phone.
If it ain't Giffgaff, JL, Three or Apple, then you need to check with the seller.
misterleoni
25 Nov 16#49
These Argos ones don't necessarily lock to the first SIM, people are just assuming. John Lewis ones don't either, and their description of SIM free iPhones still (or at least recently) said that they lock to the first SIM, even though they didn't. I would be very surprised if Argos inventory isn't from the same chain as John Lewis, and neither of them sell contracts - so why are JL so special that they get to sell fully unlocked ones and Argos dont?. There have been discussions about this before. Most sellers now - GiffGaff, JL, etc - don't lock to first SIM, Carphone Warehouse sell their phones on contract so they prescribe to the same principles as the networks whose phones they sell - probably under duress from the networks themselves. Their inventory for SIM free is the same as for contracts, so they lock to the first SIM.

Just got this reply from JL, glad I ordered from Argos:
Thank you for your enquiry.
In order to apply a price reduction on a purchase, the criteria in our pricing policy must be met. I regret that after review the request you have submitted does not match all or parts of this policy.
We match prices publicly available to all customers, based on those displayed in a shop, on the high street competitor's own website, or the first price quoted to us over the phone. The price has to apply to an identical individual product in terms of make, model, size or colour. This approach ensures consistency for all our customers and ensures the policy is transparent.
Software has been installed onto the device at Argos that will lock the phone to the network of the first SIM used. This means that if a customer were to purchase the phone and, for example, first use a Vodafone SIM and then change to an o2 SIM, this second SIM would not work. SIM Free phones sold by John Lewis, do not have this software installed and as such remain unlocked forever.
Therefore, on this occasion I am sorry I cannot match the price offered by Argos. If you would like to view more information about Never Knowingly Undersold and our pricing you can do so on our website.
I am sorry I have not been able to reduce the price on this occasion. If you require any further information or assistance please do not hesitate to contact me.

Suspect that these price matches are made on individual level, but in theory once one price match has been approved they should lower their price to all in store/online. From their site:
"If we find that they are selling the same individual product, sold with the same service conditions, at a lower price, we’ll meet that price in our shops and at johnlewis.com. So we don’t expect you to find a lower price elsewhere"
But Argos may have different software installed - who knows?

Out of all days, my OG iPhone 5 decide to die on my today! Seen this deal earlier and couldn't believe my eyes that a 64gb was priced the same as a 16gb...so I jumped at it, My local argos didn't have the 64gb Space Gray so I had to navigate around my area of London using specific postcodes and found one nearby instore, couldn't afford to wait 4-5 days to replace my phone.
I must say I'm impressed...love the 5 design and size, and you get 6s performance with such a great battery life...I don't see myself upgrading my phone for more than a couple years, if you actually want a phone you can use with one hand, grab it...its a life changer compared to the bigger screen sizes and coming from 16gb to 64gb, its a relief that I'm not reminded how much space I got left...and see such an empty bar when viewing the phone in iTunes...I know for certain it was my destiny to upgrade today and I don't regret it!
Going to watch episode 2 of "The Grand Tour" on my lovely new phone now...cheers! :stuck_out_tongue:

I'm really not impressed with how poorly JL have handled this whole thing. Yesterday morning (so 24 hours after I sent in the request on Friday morning) I got the same SIM-free related rejection to my pre-purchase price request. I suspect it's not even worth trying to query why some were rejected and others weren't with them. However, my second post-purchase request that I submitted early on Friday evening still hasn't received a reply almost 48 hours later!
I'll be very, very surprised if my second price match request gets accepted after all of this, and I expect I'll have to go to the store to collect and immediately return my order tomorrow. Rather than relying on their ridiculously inconsistent, slow online customer services team, I wish I'd just gone to my local store on Friday and tried to do it all in person.
Tbh, this has all kind of put me off shopping with JL a bit.

I received an email saying it's out of stock so they can't price match the item so I replied with screenshots of my transaction process on Argos' site and rather than waiting for a response, I called their customer services team. The call lasted max 10 minutes and I got an email confirmation with a £50 refund because I provided screenshots.
If anyone needs these screenshots feel free to contact me.

Still haven't heard a peep from JL regarding my post-purchase price match request well over 60 hours later. Is anyone else in the same boat?
I'm wondering if the store would knock off the £50 in person if I go down to collect my order with my Argos screenshots in tow.

I was wondering about doing that. Has anyone ever had any success with an attempt like that in Oxford St ?

For what it's worth - my price match with JL also got rejected on the same grounds about the SimLock issue, and they replied about 25 hours after I sent it via email.
I have also asked them why they have granted some requests and not others and have not received a reply on that one (since asking on Saturday lunchtime).
I ended up with one from Argos in the end. Kinda glad I went ahead given JL's rather tardy and unhelpful response

My rejection just came through now. :disappointed:
I'm still kind of tempted to try my luck in the store.

Hi
I've just had my request for a price match turned down because of the unlocked/SIM-free distinction. Can you please let me know how to contact the lead director? I phone JL and was told to reply to the email. I would be really grateful, as I bought this with JL vouchers, and don't really want to be landed with £400 worth of vouchers!

Anyone who missed out on this and has an Amex card, it may be worth checking your current offers. I would currently get £30 off, if buying this at an Apple store (or Apple online) which takes it down to £399. Not quite the Argos deal (or a JL pricematch) but pretty handy. There also seems to be 2.2% Quidco on the SE if bought from Apple online, so that's another £9 off.
or you can just buy it at the giffgaff normal price of 399 !!

Got one of these from Argos and the phone will not activate, just says could not reach the activation server. Tried connecting it to iTunes and it's just a blank page that says iPhone in the centre and nothing happens. Will be attempting to return to Argos today.

Thank you very much. I had an email back to say that they're allowing it as a one-off gesture of goodwill. Appreciate your help with this.

This is what I did. I went on Friday with a print out of screen shots and they matched on the spot at the Bond St store.

Emailed the Argos screenshots to the director's e-mail above, after receiving the standard rejection (first on grounds of lack of stock and then on distinction between unlocked and sim free). Got messages and a phone call within minutes, offering the one off concession and I have now ordered at the Argos price. Good result esp with the free JL 2 yr warranty thrown in ! Thanks to all who pioneered this path.

1. for the size as I prefer a phone to fit my pocket
2. the cash savings
3. Performs just as well as the 7 in most areas (better on battery as well)
Probably worth factory reseting your phone and setting up from scratch as your "backup/profile" maybe corrupt/buggy.
Deal heated.

Great little phone , switched from android after many years and only regret that I didn't do it earlier.
You need an "unlocked" version
It's not outdated info...as the other half got one from carohone warehouse and it locked. That was last year
It's only advise...
"Browse our great range of sim free smart phones and you will see the great range of unlocked phones from top manufacturers including Sony and Apple."
Sounds like they shouldn't lock to sim. Though it would be good if someone can confirm.
You need to look for "unlocked"
Just a heads up
http://kenstechtips.com/index.php/apple-iphone-when-sim-free-doesnt-mean-unlocked
Hmm...not surprising that it's a bit confusing. So I wonder if they will price match their SimFree with this SimFree...
Thanks for the link though...great price, have been looking for a bargain on the 64gb version...
So you are saying a 3 sim unlocks it ?
<3
This is the 64GB not 16GB.
If it ain't Giffgaff, JL, Three or Apple, then you need to check with the seller.
Going to wait to see if my price match request comes back in time via the JL website, if not I might just go for it.
Reserved instore and put price match into john lewis.
Great deal, but too risky if you want guaranteed unlocked.
Edit: Does anyone have any kind of written confirmation stating that John Lewis iPhones are definitely unlocked? I'm planning on switching networks fairly soon and also want a phone I can use with overseas SIM cards etc. I seem to be finding conflicting information about whether or not JL iPhones are locked on Google.
Will now probably get an email from JL refusing price match, stating item not in stock at Argos.
I just got an email for JL confirming that they will price match this. I also had it confirmed on the phone. I would suggest you call again and try another person.
Thank you for your price match request for the Apple iPhone SE, iOS, 4", 4G LTE, SIM Free, 64GB, Space Grey with product code: 83301405.
I have looked into your request and will be happy to match the price of £379.00 for the item seen at Argos.

not sure whether to wait and risk the chance of missing out or just order it hoping they will refund...
I ordered after they confirmed. You could cancel if they don't price match for you. I think it will depend whether there is any stock available from Argos near you?
6 and 7 seem to run better imo
I submitted my price match request at 10:05am and still haven't heard anything back. :disappointed:
"If we find that they are selling the same individual product, sold with the same service conditions, at a lower price, we’ll meet that price in our shops and at johnlewis.com. So we don’t expect you to find a lower price elsewhere"
But Argos may have different software installed - who knows?

:stuck_out_tongue:
have to say i'm quite surprised, i never had any issues with John Lewis before but if they don't i'll certainly think twice before using them again..
Probably time to move on.
I got an email an hour ago that my refund of £50 has been processed and should see it in my bank account in 5 days.
Edit: typo.
If anyone needs these screenshots feel free to contact me.
