In this age of 4k tv and Hdr, so many are throwing away perfectly working full HD tv like this. Instead of wasting £179, just look for second hand on ebay and other give away websites . You will be surprised you can get a TV like this for free or nearly free.

Great bed time story bro!
....moral of the story is...not to dismiss deals like this just because someone says you can get one for free if you sit and watch eBay listings for a few days / months / years....
You should now prove a point and give your TV away for free

I got the 49" version earlier in the year for £280 minus £20 voucher. An excellent monitor.
I doubt it will go below £250 on BF, really doubt it for new year as brexit currency problems will kick in by then.

Great deal. Can't find full spec of this model anywhere
Does anybody know if it's 50hz, 100 or 200hz?
I'm about to press buy but I've been told 50hz is too low for gaming and sports
Will I get motion blur at 50hz?
Please help anyone as I don't wanna miss this deal <3

hz is not the key to gaming - motion lag is ! However none of the specs on the tescos website detail this ! its a bit of a lottery as price is no indication. I checked with tescos customer service and if you are not happy with a tv purchased on line you can return to store (I bought £199 43" digihome on tescos website as some reviews said it was ok for for gaming ?) - best to take a photos on mobile as you unwrap so you can rewrap if required. so buy it ! try it ! If you like it keep it ! If not return it !

What a load of rubbish. I've been looking for a couple of TV's recently and one place I've been looking is Ebay, and only surprise I've had is seeing the stupid money second hand tv's sell for.

i had this tv and surely can recommend it.
- very light weight , hence easy to move and setup
- remote and channel transition very smooth
- 3 hdmi which ensures chromecast/sky/laptop all possible at same time.
only disadvantage i see is the "stand". Not quite like the concept of two legs as you need a tv stand that big. Otherwise bang for £179a

I suspect the manufacturing supply over-, and low demand for these types will trump the currency issues. Sharp had to be bailed out recently. Wonder of the £179 how much is shipping, how much Tesco gets, then there is Sharp? Margins might be thin.

In fact Sharp TVs are now Slovakian made under licence in Poland. According to Wiki:
In September 2014, Sharp announced that Slovakian electronics company UMC was acquiring an exclusive brand licence from Sharp and its European television and audio business UMC will also acquire Sharp’s Polish factory. As part of the deal, Sharp will support the design and development of televisions sold by UMC under the Sharp brand
Sharp is a licensed Vestel brand for white goods in Europe including rebadged Servis washing machines.

i gave away a 32" tv a few weeks back, that count? i had a 42" in the living room that i replaced with a 50 so the 42 went upstairs, i sort of agree about the throw away society so it does happen. Gonna have an LG 2.1 system going soon too, charity shops do well out of me
if this tv had a middle type base stand id have it for the kids room, its a bargain at this price

I quite agree in a way, I found a Samsung 48uej7000 I think it is , which is 4K uhd an very impressive set which I got for 280 complete with a lg blue ray player all boxed as new with plastic stickers still on anddddd a receipt for John Lewis for remaining just under 5yr warranty  bargains are out there new or nearly new
soldierboy001
5 Nov 16#60
I think it would fit comfortably as the 40" is the diagonal, so draw a line from corner to corner on the picture of the TV with a piece of string and take away one quarter of that will leave you with 30"stretch that across the legs on the picture to give you an idea of the distance they are apart. Did you fail geometry at school?
djbhammer
5 Nov 16#61
Did you fail English at school? Don't see why you have to be sarcastic about my question. The width of the tv is just under 93cm so I just wanted to see what the cm was between the feet given the width of my tv stand.
ezzer72
5 Nov 16#62
Way too much heat for this. About the right price for a 'supermarket' TV, which sadly is what the lower end Sharp sets are nowadays.
soldierboy001
6 Nov 163#63
Actually yes I did fail English at school even if I did go to a Grammar School. As I was not going to be a poet or an author I realised that as I could speak and understand what others were saying verbs, adjectives, hyphens and full stops were not required. I did like geometry, woodwork and metalwork though so passed those with high marks, especially the ash tray I made from a flat plate. As I was going into the Army the only English I needed to know was fire at will and retreat so failing English was no big deal to me and I passed up the ranks and was able to shout at lower ranks, in English, to stand up straight at attention and double round the parade ground with no knowledge of parenthesis or hyphens and I earned good money too.
After 15 years of doing this I got a bit tired of all this war making so re-joined civvy street and became a car transporter driver and surprise surprise no English required except to ask at the dropping off point " where do you want these mate ". For this I was able with Saturday morning deliveries to earn in excess of £1,000 per week and live a comfortable life style, but then along came computerisation, changing work patterns and these all in all made it harder to do the job and less wages for more work and nights away from home, so a review of my situation caused me to go self employed and hire out my services as a driver which I did with good success and still I did this without English qualifications. I am now retired and due to the fact I had some really good advice during my Army career and without English qualification just the ability to speak English and understand, set up a good pension scheme that along with my government and SERP's and Army pensions gives me, after tax a little over £500 per week.
So it looks as if failing English at school has only caused a problem to you. Never mind eh.

Great value. If its a redbadged Vestel no issue, I've had three similar , a 21.5", 32" and sat watching a 50" at the moment and all work excellently including the pvr function with a memory stick. This is a good chunk of inches for the money. Buy this and if it lasts 3-4 years, great as that might then be the time to make the 4k move. Good spot OP

Sharp branded brown goods - ie TV's are manufactured by UMC - Universal Media Corporation ( who also knock out Blaupunkt TV's ) - and have been doing so for a few years now. Sharp TV's have absolutely nothing to do with vestel.
Sharp branded white goods - ie washing machines, fridges etc are manufactured by Vestel.
Over in America Sharp is now owned by Hi - Sense.
Vestel does not have any part in manufacturing sharp branded TV's.

Sharp make the white goods and Vestel put their name on them. Over in America Sharp sold it's factory in Mexico to Hisense and Hisense sell their product with the Sharp name on them In North and South America, except Brazil.
