Cheers op, I'm after a decent pair of headphones, got a 100-150 limit, should I go for these or can someone else recommend another pair of sennheisers? There's so many different models, can't get my head round them all. Thanks in advance

Depends on a few things. What sound signature do you want? Open headphones generally lack bass clout, but if you want more prominent bass you probably won't be happy with these.

Also depends what you want to use them for. Out and about or home hifi? These would be good for the latter but not the former.
And like rev6 mentioned, what sound signature do you prefer? For example, Bassy and dynamic or flat and detailed?

Put it this way you're unlikely to lose much if anything if you try these and sell them on.

if the 598 suddenly came up on offer those would be better ...which does happen

I have the 595's and I just dial up the bass a tad. (I'm just as likely to do that as to decrease the bass on in-ear 'phones otherwise it gets a bit tiring to listen to)

Yeah you can do that to get more bass but it can have a negative effect on the entire sound as the driver is tuned to sound a certain way. A tad is good though.

Not impressed with these. They have a more acceptable appearance and a more secure fit, but they're seriously lacking in clarity compared to my old AD700.
In fairness they do have more bass and would be easier listening for longer at higher volumes, but I'm not sure I like the compromise on everything else. For 20% less than I paid for the AD700 they're not too bad, but otherwise overpriced imo.

Overpriced even at £80? What other options would you suggest around this price.

As I said not too bad for the current price, but otherwise as in previous price not so good.

Good price that. I remember buying these for something like £70. I sold them eventually. They have very soft bass response. Otherwise quite well rounded with good detail but not fatiguing. Also good spatial imaging and very comfortable design. Due to open back that do leak slot of sound and let all the noise in. I'd say more so than others I've tried. I got rid of the as I felt Superlux HD 668 sounded better.

668 are better? I think they're too sibilant and not comfy on the head. Did you mod them?

Got a pair of these on amazon last year. Sensational pair of headphones, amazing sound and the comfiest I've ever used. They are open back so other people will hear sound, still amazing

They will mainly be used for gaming really, music every now and then, mainly hip hop but abit of everything really. But yeah home use. Sorry for late reply didn't see this

For gaming I would personally go for open, for wider soundstage, but closed would give you more bass, usually. I prefer open for in-house listening.

Cheers for that, think il go for open then. Hopefully get a bargain this week on black Friday. Any you recommend I should keep an eye out for?

Philips Fidelio X2 dropped to around £120 a few weeks ago, that was a steal, but only a few managed to get them. Fostex T50RP are very good. The Sennheiser HD598 drop sometimes to £99, if they do, that's a good buy. These here are good too.

Will keep an eye out mate, cheers for the suggestions rev appreciate it. Like the look of the Fostex so might give them a go. Unless the sennheisers go down again

The MK3 revision is the one to go for with the Fostex. I would hold off for now until Black Friday at least. Don't mention it
